Missing doctor was killed by paramour

The main accused, Meenu, who wanted to end her illicit relationship with the slain doctor The police have claimed that the 51-year old diabetologist, Dr R. K. Gupta of Ganga Ram Hospital, who went missing on December 5, had been murdered by his kidnappers. They claim to have recovered the victim’s charred body on Sunday.

Milk van carrying liquor impounded
Faridabad, December 10
The illicit liquor mafia, operational in the district, recently resorted to a novel modus operandi: It used a ‘Mother Dairy’ van to ferry liquor bottles. The police stumbled over the camouflage when they laid their hands on a milk van carrying liquor worth over Rs one lakh. The van bore the logo of Mother Dairy.

Rally demands end to ‘mad rush for boys only’

Demanding an end to the mindless killing of the girl child both within and outside the womb, hundreds of protestors observed the Human Rights Day in the Capital today. Raising slogans and armed with the placards that highlighted the bias against the girl child, a large number of women, children and men sought an end to the sex determination tests and female foeticide.

Traffic disrupted over police inaction

A large number of villagers disrupted the traffic on the Hapur-Modinagar road against the police inaction over jurisdiction row between the Meerut and the Ghaziabad police station after the body of a kidnapped youth had been found in a nearby sugarcane field.

Accidents claim 392 lives till Nov
New Delhi, December 10
Road accidents had claimed as many as 392 lives in the national Capital till November this year while another 880 were injured, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. Replying to written questions, Minister of State for Home I D Swami said while 297 persons were killed due to heavy vehicles like goods carriers, 60 were killed by private passenger buses and another 35 by Delhi Transport Corporation buses.

Amend building laws, urges MCD leader
New Delhi, December 10
The Chairman of Standing Committee and Leader of House in the MCD, Mr Ram Babu Sharma, today demanded that the Central Government should initiate necessary steps to amend the existing building bylaws to facilitate the regularisation of existing unauthorised constructions.

Old couple killed in cylinder blast
Jhajjar, December 10
An aged couple reportedly died in a gas cylinder blast in Khanpur Kalan village of the district two days ago. According to the information reaching here today, a woman Chando Devi (50) was cooking in the morning of December 5. Suddenly, the cylinder burst, and the woman and her husband Ishwar Singh (55) received injuries. They were admitted to hospitals in a serious condition. Both succumbed to their injuries on December 8.

LG Prayas to work for deprived kids
New Delhi, December 10

NOBLE CAUSE LG Electronics India Ltd has joined hands with the city-based NGO, Prayas, to work for the underprivileged children. The Indian subsidiary of the Korean electronic giant has donated Rs 25 lakh to launch a joint programme. LG Prayas is aimed at providing education, health care, shelter, vocational training and rehabilitation to the underprivileged children.

With the arrest of a motor workshop owner, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a racket of alteration of chassis number, engine number of 15-year-old Matador tempo which was invalid to ply in the national Capital.

Following a complaint lodged by Mrs Raj Rani, wife of Kishan Singh, resident of Rampura village near here, the Model Town Police have arrested Abdul and Aslam, both residents of Shakarpura, Delhi; Suresh Sharma and his wife Sunitas Sharma, resident of Palam (Delhi) and Mohan Yadav of Qutabpur locality of Rewari City, all functionaries of a ‘fraudulent’ finance company, “Revolution Forever Marketing Private Ltd” which had been running in the Company Bagh area here for a long time.

Is UPSC giving a raw deal to disabled?

he National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People has decided to challenge what they allege is "discriminatory behaviour by the UPSC" towards the disabled. "Though the UPSC has made itself disabled-friendly as an institution, it has failed on other counts," said the Executive Director, NCPEDP, Javed Abidi. He recalled, "couple of years ago it was a hearing impaired boy from Kerela who despite his meritorious performance was denied a chance to join the services, then it was a candidate with low vision who having cleared the hurdles of the prelims, the mains and the interview were rejected on the basis of the physical test.
