DAV School sail into World Cup semi-final

DAV School, Chandigarh nosed out Barguna Zilla School, Bangladesh by two wickets and sailed into the semi-final of the DPS World Cup Invitational Cricket for Schools at the SGTB Khalsa College ground.

Scores: Barguna Zilla School: 144 all out in 38.5 overs (Asmarifur Rahman Roni 38, A Sawon Talukdar 22, Shahin Azad 23 n o, Prashant 2 for 16, Naresh Gogyan 3 for 23, Akashdeep 2 for 35).

DAV School: 146 for 8 in 37.4 overs (Sumit Khamboj 40 n o, Siddharth Sharma 26, Shahin Azad 3 for 22, A Sawon Talukdar 2 for 32).

Razzak High School, Bangladesh defeated Ravindra Public School, Delhi by 11 runs at the Guru Gobind Singh College ground, Pitampura.

Scores: Razzak High School: 173 for 9 in 40 overs (Azizur Rahman 45, Saidul Basher 42, Linkon Taluckder 31, Modem Kesar 23 n o, Harish Kumar 3 for 21, Viper Gupta 2 for 36).

Ravindra School: 162 all out in 39.4 overs (Sandi Singh Kari 55, Tussar Alike 30, Harish Kumar 25, Hussain Arid 4 for 25, Malabo Rahman 2 for 21, Modem Kesar 2 for 33).

Parowan Calando High School, Bangladesh defeated Delhi Public School, R K Purim by seven wickets at the Sachet sports complex ground.

Scores: DPS: 113 all out in 35.5 overs (Simron Sodhi 38, Hemmant Chug 35, Abu Sayeed Raze 3 for 18, Fakir Hussain 2 for 15, Iran Hussain 2 for 22).

Parowan School: 115 for 3 in 24.3 overs (Laager Hussain 46 n o, Iran Hussain 27).

Royal Kashmir go down fighting

New Delhi, December 10
Royal Kashmir A team went down fighting to Teachers 4-6, despite a two-goal effort from their Argentinean import Juan Imbroglio, in their first encounter of the Baroda Cup Polo Tournament at the Jaipur Polo ground on Tuesday. Pretender Singh starred for the winners, scoring three goals.

Royal Kashmir A wrested the initiative when Juan Imbroglio scored the first goal. However, Pretender Singh slammed home a goal to level the score. The second chucker saw Teachers’ captain Navin Khanna score a goal to put his team in the lead. The lead was, however, short-lived as Philip Elliot equalised for Royal Kashmir.

The third chucker had Imbroglio score yet again for Royal Kashmir A to put them 3-2 ahead. But the opposition would have none of that as Lucinda Singh and Navin Khanna scored a goal apiece to get Teachers into the lead 4-3. Jagat Singh of Royal Kashmir then fired a goal to level at 4-4.

However, two consecutive goals by Pretender Singh sealed the fate of the matches it ended 6-4 in favour of Teachers.

Apex School record facile victory in Subrogor

New Delhi, December 10
Apex Public School, Delhi blanked St. Joseph School, Diapur (Naga land) 3-0 in a Group III match of the Subrogor Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday. Sunny scored once in each half while Robin accounted for the other goal.

In a Group IV match, St. Ignatius School, Gumma (Harchand) and Vivek Anand Vidyapeeth, Bustard were locked in a goalless draw.

In a Group VI match, Sere Kamala Adarsh Seva Vidayalaya (Varanasi) crushed St. Joseph Convent School, Madhya Pradesh 9-0. Mohd Nabbed scored twice and Echo Lakh Ahmed, Birdum Yadav and Wahid Acthar scored one goal each.

Govt Model High School, Chandigarh trounced Maharani Pratap Sports College, Dehradun 3-0. Gagman scored a brace and Randeep accounted for the other goal.

Super Star, Rehma win in DDCA League

Super Star beat Oriental Bank of Commerce by nine wickets in the DDCA League at the RSKP ground.
Scores: Oriental Bank: 119 all out 38.2 overs (Anil Arora 31, Vikrant Sehwag 3 for 25, Devender Bhandari 2 for 31, Amit Sharma 2 for 27). Super Star: 120 for 1 in 21 overs (Rakesh Sharma 51 n o, Tejender Singh 42 n o).

Rehman Club beat Delhi Blues by 16 runs in an A-I Division match at the YSC I ground.

Scores: Rehman Club: 156 in 33.4 overs (Shahzeb Naqvi 34, Mohd Iran 54, Aswani Katyal 4 for 33, Mukesh Deewan 3 for 26). Delhi Blues: 150 all out in 29 overs (Anuj Sharma 43, Ankit Kaista 29, Mohd Adnan 3 for 12, Mehboob Alam 3 for 17).

Salman School enter quarters

A fine knock of 52 by Shobhit Kaushik and all-round performance by Yogesh Nagar helped Salman Boys defeat St. Giri School by 107 runs and entered the quarter-final of the third Kehar Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Vikas Puri ground.

Scores: Salman Boys: 164 for 6 in 30 overs (Shobhit Kaushik 52, Yogesh Nagar 37, Siddarth Sharma 35 n o, Niket Kumar 3 for 40). St. Giri: 57 all out in 18.4 overs (Yogesh Nagar 3 for 20, Hariom Chaudhary 3 for 5, Neeraj Bansal 3 for 15).

Dena Bank win

Dena Bank defeated Business Standard Bank by 153 runs in the Trans-Yamuna Cricket Association League at the Poorvi Delhi Khel Parishar ground.

Scores: Dena Bank: 224 for 8 in 35 overs (Vishal Sharma 53, Mahesh Sood 35 n o, Amit Tomar 3 for 43, Rakesh Sharma 2 for 51).

Mohit Sharma slams century in Achiever tourney

An unbeaten century (112) by Mohit Sharma and 70 not out by Vinod Chug helped Hansraj Model School defeat West Delhi Academy by ten wickets in the Aviva Young Achiever Cricket Tournament.

Scores: West Delhi Academy: 193 (Akash Kumar 49, Virender Singh 32, Gaurav Kumar 31, Vishal Yadav 4 for 35, Gyan Prakash 2 ofr 35) and 201 for 7 decl (Gaurav Kumar 82, Virender Singh 43, Vishal Yadav 5 for 40).

Hansraj Model School: 191 all out (Vishal Yadav 52, K Bhaskar 48, Vinod Chug 40, Rajat Kiran 3 for 30, Jaideep 3 for 35) and 204 (Mohit Sharma 112 n o, Vinod Chug 70).

Puneet shines

An all-round performance by Puneet Aggarwal (74 and 4 for 30) helped Dealers XI beat Company XI by 29 runs in the final of the Donear Cup Cricket Tournament at the Ramjas ground.

Scores: Dealers XI: 184 (Puneet Aggarwal 74, Mukesh Aggarwal 32, Rakesh Kumar 4 for 20, Raj Kumar 3 for 34).

Gagman Verma shoots into lead at NGC open

New Delhi, December 10
Gagman Varma shot as superb five-under par 67 to return as the leader after the opening round of the NGC Open 2003 at the Noida Golf Course here today. The IOCL amateur led by two strokes over SSP Chowrasia who was the best amongst the professionals.

Defending champion Ashok Kumar and DGC pro Dinesh Kumar shot two-under 70 to be tied for the third spot while six others - Ali Sher, Gaurav Ghei, Pappon, Sandeep Syal, Sanjay Kumar and Vivek Bhandari were tied for the fifth place with a total of 71.

Gagman Verma who made a comeback from a nearly two year break due to a back injury, opened his account with a birdie, narrowly missing an eagle on the par-5 first hole.

However, he did cherish his ambition when he made an eagle -two on the very next hole while chipping-in from 75 yards. The IOCL lad showed his touch throughout his round when he collected three more birdies on the eighth, 10th and 15th. The birdie on the last was his best as he chipped to six inches from the cup.

The 32-year-old committed his lone mistake of the day on the par-3 16th, where he faced a wall on his second shot.

CBSE Volleyball championship

Faridabad, December 10
Cricketer Kapil Dev will be the chief guest at the inaugural function of the third CBSE National Volleyball Championship to be held at DAV Public school, Sector 14, here form December 13 to 16.

According to organisers, about forty-eight teams from across the country and Gulf countries will participate in the championship to be held at DAV Public School.

Mr S. L. Suri, Vice-President of the DAV Managing Committee and Mr P. L. Saboo will be the guest of honour at the inauguration.

Mr Ashok Ganguli, Chairman, CBSE, will give away prizes to winners on the final day. Mr Shanti Swaroop Khanna, vice-president of DAV College Managing Committee, will be the guest of honour. TNS
