Allowance of physically challenged jobless hiked Rohtak, December 3 A group of visually-impaired youths waved a black shawl and raised slogans against the INLD government when the Chief Minister was honouring donors at the function. These philanthropists had donated generously towards construction of ‘Shravan’, a centre for the rehabilitation of mentally challenged persons above the age of 18 years. The centre is located on the premises of the Arpan institute for the mentally challenged children. When Mr Chautala was honouring the donors, a group of visually impaired youths, who were part of the audience, suddenly stood up, waved a black shawl towards the Chief Minister and started shouting “Chautala tere shasan mein, jhoothe waade bhashan mein”. The security persons were taken unawares. A visibly annoyed Chief Minister waited for a few minutes and then took the mike and said that the demonstrators were either instigated by the Opposition leaders or were not in full knowledge of the welfare schemes introduced by the INLD government. He advised the demonstrators to approach the government for redressal of their grievances. The Chief Minister said that 3 per cent posts had been reserved for the
physically challenged persons in Haryana. The Red Cross Societies and District Child Welfare Centres at Rohtak, Hisar, Sonepat, Sirsa, Gurgaon and Ambala were running schools for mentally challenged children. His government, Mr Chautala said, had earmarked Rs 22.31 crore during the current financial year for the welfare of the
physically challenged persons as compared to Rs 19.82 crore last year. The demonstrators belonging to the “Netarheen Jagrit Sangh” told newsmen later that they wanted to register their protest against the anti-disabled policies of the Chautala government. They said graduate and postgraduate visually impaired youths had been without jobs for years. The unemployed visually impaired persons had been sitting in dharna outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh for the past two months seeking employment, they said. Earlier, he layed the foundation stone of the improved National Highway No 16-A connecting Gohana with Bhiwani via Lakhanmajra. |
