4-day police remand for Bhaniarawala’s assailant
Ambala, September 25
Gopal Singh, the assailant of Baba Bhaniarawala, was produced in the court of chief Judicial Magistrate here today. Gopal Singh had attacked Baba yesterday outside the court complex when the Baba had come to court in a case registered against him in Noorpur Bedi, and which was later transferred to the court of CJM, Ambala.

BSP to oppose arrest of Mayawati
Ambala, September 25
The BSP would launch a nationwide agitation if the CBI dared to arrest BSP supremo Mayawati in the Taj corridor case, said Mr Ashok Sherwal, president of the Haryana BSP, here today.

Youth Cong men observe protest day
Kurukshetra, September 25
To express their protest against the fee hike in universities and colleges and the disaffiliation of the colleges in Fatehbad, Bhiwani, Jind, Hisar and Sirsa districts from Kurukshetra University and Maharshi Dayanand University, Youth Congress activists and students led by the Indian Youth Congress.

Students of the Haryana Agriculture University here remained on strike for the second day today in protest against the suspension of 12 students of the university.

College students’ strike continues

Students of the local colleges observed partial strike for the second day today in response to the strike call given by the Students Joint Action Committee. 

Student shot, another injured
Hisar, September 25
A student was shot dead while another was injured seriously in a firing incident at Dabra Chowk here late last night. The injured was admitted to a local private hospital.

Scribe’s murder: 2 accused remanded
Kaithal, September 25

Two out of the three accused allegedly involved in the murder of a local journalist Parmanand Goel on September 18 were remanded in police custody till September 29 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ms Paramveer Nijjar, today. The DIG Mr M.S. Ahlawat, said efforts were on to nab the third accused, Surinder Geong.

Bail plea of IAS officer dismissed
Ambala, September 25
The Additional Sessions Judge, Ambala, Mr B.M Bedi, here today dismissed the bail application of a senior IAS officer of Haryana and former Managing Director of the Haryana Financial Corporation, Mr Ajit Mohan Sharan, allegedly involved in the multi-crore loan scam of the HFC.

Bansi promises 24-hour power supply
Sirsa, September 25
Power tariff will be slashed and round the clock power supply will be ensured if the HVP comes to power. This was stated by party supremo Bansi Lal here yesterday. He addressed a press conference before addressing a state-level rally.

20 injured as vehicle overturns
Karnal, September 25
At lest 20 students were injured, three of them seriously, when a tractor-trailer carrying them overturned near the ITI Chowk here this afternoon. The three injured seriously were referred to the PGI in Chandigarh while others had been admitted to the local civil hospital. 

Four held for stealing railway machinery parts
Kurukshetra, September 25
Following the arrest of four persons, the Delhi Railway Protection Force has claimed to have unearthed a gang of railway machinery parts thieves.

One dies of electrocution, 15 injured

One person was killed and at least 15 others injured when one of the persons sitting on the roof of a private bus accidentally touched with a high-tension electricity wire this evening.

4-day police remand for Bhaniarawala’s assailant

Ambala, September 25
Gopal Singh, the assailant of Baba Bhaniarawala, was produced in the court of chief Judicial Magistrate here today. Gopal Singh had attacked Baba yesterday outside the court complex when the Baba had come to court in a case registered against him in Noorpur Bedi, and which was later transferred to the court of CJM, Ambala.

The CJM, Mr Surya Pratap Singh, remanded the assailant in police custody for four days. The Ambala police had registered a case against Gopal under Section 307 yesterday.

Earlier today, the police had filed an application in the court of the CJM in which it requested the court to grant 10 days police remand to Gopal. The public prosecutor stated in the court that the police had to recover the motor cycle on which Gopal had come to Ambala. The police had to arrest the other fellow who was accompanying Gopal. The public prosecutor said that the police had to find out the persons who hatched the conspiracy to kill the Baba.

It is learnt that Gopal had disclosed to the police during interrogation that he had visited Ambala earlier also but could not get proper opportunity to get success in his mission. He said that he was familiar with a number of followers of the Baba as he had visited his dera several times.Top

 

 

BSP to oppose arrest of Mayawati

Ambala, September 25
The BSP would launch a nationwide agitation if the CBI dared to arrest BSP supremo Mayawati in the Taj corridor case, said Mr Ashok Sherwal, president of the Haryana BSP, here today. He alleged that communal forces had been conspiring to implicate Mayawati in false cases. He said that the BSP had lost faith in the CBI.

Talking to mediapersons, Mr Sherwal said that the Haryana Government had announced thousands of jobs of gram sewak, gram sachiv and van rakshak but no provision of reservation had been made in these recruitments for the SC/BC sections. He said the BSP would file a write petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court to challenge the recruitment policy of the government. He said that if the government did not provide proper share to Dalits in jobs, the BSP workers would launch an agitation.Top

 

 

Youth Cong men observe protest day

Kurukshetra, September 25
To express their protest against the fee hike in universities and colleges and the disaffiliation of the colleges in Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Jind, Hisar and Sirsa districts from Kurukshetra University and Maharshi Dayanand University, Youth Congress activists and students led by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC). President, Mr Randeep Singh Surjewala, here today observed the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Devi Lal as protest day. They took out a march from the local Brahmin Dharamshala to the Kurukshetra University entrance gate Number two.

The processionists with black ribbons tied to their heads as a mark of protest raised slogans: “shiksha par kiya prahar, yuvaon ko kiya bekar — badlo-badlo Chautala sarkar”; shiksha wa rozgar, yuva mangte hain adhikar”.

The activists, including students, set on fire about 75 graduate and postgraduate degrees before terminating the march in front of the university gate Number two. Mr Surjewala told this reporter that the Chautala government had driven the youth to utmost frustration. The students had offered their degrees for burning because these were not helpful in getting employment, he added.

Mr Surjewala lambasted the Chautala government’s decision to hike the fees for graduate and post-graduate courses and disaffiliated colleges of Fatehabad, Bhiwani, Jind, Hisar and Sirsa districts from Kurukshetra University and Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Mr Surjewala alleged that instead of responding to the genuine demands of the students and the youth, Chautala government had adopted repressive measures against them.

Mr Surjewala alleged that Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, was a vacant piece of land as on date. Moreover, it was an ungraded university and had not been granted recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Dharna by farm varsity students

Hisar, September 25
Students of the Haryana Agriculture University here remained on strike for the second day today in protest against the suspension of 12 students of the university.

Students of all six constituent colleges of the university boycotted classes and marched in a procession on the university campus. They raised slogans against the university authorities. Girl students also participated in the protest march. Later they started an indefinite dharna in front of the administrative block of the varsity. The police in strength was deployed there to avoid an untoward incident.

Student leaders criticised Vice-Chancellor M.K. Miglani for his attitude over the issue. They claimed that there was no incident ragging in the university and university officials were misleading university authorities on this issue. They demanded that the university authorities should revoke the suspension order. The police post on the university campus should be removed at the earliest.

They also demanded that two representatives of students should be included in the Academic Council of the university. They warned that if their demands were not met soon the students would start indefinite fast.

College students’ strike continues

Jind, September 25
Students of the local colleges observed partial strike for the second day today in response to the strike call given by the Students Joint Action Committee. The committee had given a call for the strike in protest against the affiliation of Jind Colleges with Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, and to press for the acceptance of same other demands. The students have been demanding affiliation of their colleges with Kurukshetra University, withdrawal of fees hike in professional colleges, conduct of elections to the students union and withdrawal of cases registered against students leaders in connection with their recent agitation.

According to reports, majority of college students stayed away from their classes and raised slogans in support of their demands. In view of the strike the district administration had made strict security arrangements and the police was deployed in front of all colleges.

Student shot, another injured

Hisar, September 25
A student was shot dead while another was injured seriously in a firing incident at Dabra Chowk here late last night. The injured was admitted to a local private hospital.

According to the police, Roopak of the local Jat College and Sandeep Punia of the local Dayanand College were returning to their houses at Urban Estate from the local bus stand on a motor cycle last night. As soon as they reached near Dabra Chowk, some unidentified persons stopped their vehicle and opened fire. They also allegedly attacked them with iron rods. They were rushed to a nearby private hospital where Roopak was declared brought dead. The assailants fled from the spot. The police registered a case.

Meanwhile, in a related development members of the Aggarwal Yuva Sabha have decided not to celebrate ‘Maharaja Aggarsain Jayanti’ on September 26 due to the murder of Parmanand Goel who was also senior vice-president of the sabha. The Jayanti will be celebrated on October 7.

Giving this information to media persons Dr P.P. Arya, general secretary of the sabha, said today that this decision was taken in an meeting called to condole the murder of Parmanand Goel. — OCTop

 

Bail plea of IAS officer dismissed

The Additional Sessions Judge, Ambala, Mr B.M Bedi, here today dismissed the bail application of a senior IAS officer of Haryana and former Managing Director of the Haryana Financial Corporation (HFC), Mr Ajit Mohan Sharan, allegedly involved in the multi-crore loan scam of the HFC. Earlier, two bail applications of Mr Sharan were dismissed by the court.

Mr Sharan had filed a bail application yesterday in this court, on which the court had issued a notice to the Vigilance Bureau for today.

Mr Ashok Mehta and Mr BK Bali, counsels of Mr Sharan, stated during the argument on the bail application that the Vigilance Bureau had not taken proper permission from the Union Government for filing the challan against Mr Sharan, so the challan became null and void. He requested the court that since the bureau had failed to file proper challan even after the expiry of 90 days, Mr Sharan should be granted bail.

The public prosecutor, Mr Gautam, who appeared on behalf of the Vigilance Bureau, while opposing the bail application said that since Mr Sharan was a senior IAS officer of Haryana, he might influence the witness if granted bail. He said that Mr Sharan had caused a loss of Rs 97 crore to the state exchequer during his tenure as MD of the HFC.

After hearing the arguments of both sides, the Judge dismissed the bail application of Mr Sharan. Meanwhile, the bail application of the former Executive Director of the HFC, Mr Ugarsen Chadda, will be heard on September 30. It was filed in the court on Wednesday.Top

 

 

Bansi promises 24-hour power supply

Power tariff will be slashed and round the clock power supply will be ensured if the HVP comes to power. This was stated by party supremo Bansi Lal here yesterday. He addressed a press conference before addressing a state-level rally.

Mr Bansi Lal said he would implement the flat rate power tariff system for farmers. He refused to elaborate on his plan for 24-hour power supply, saying that the present government could gain from it.

Regarding the SYL canal, he claimed that the decision of the Supreme Court had been given on the petition that was filed during his regime in 1996.

Talking about Devi Lal University, he said he was not against the establishment of the university but he would not allow it to be named after Devi Lal. He announced to abolish house tax in cities, besides giving concessions in ST-38 and electricity development tax.

Later addressing a public rally in the local anaj mandi, he repeated his stand on Devi Lal’s statues and the SYL. He was presented with Rs 5 lakh by the district HVP chief.Top

 

 

20 injured as vehicle overturns

At lest 20 students were injured, three of them seriously, when a tractor-trailer carrying them overturned near the ITI Chowk here this afternoon. The three injured seriously were referred to the PGI in Chandigarh while others had been admitted to the local civil hospital. The students were coming from Kurukshetra to Karnal to donate blood at a camp. The exact reason for the accident was not yet known.

Those injured seriously were identified as Sanjiv of Madanpur village, Vikram of Saran Majra and Dharmendra of Kurukshetra. Top

 

Four held for stealing railway machinery parts

Following the arrest of four persons, the Delhi Railway Protection Force (RPF) has claimed to have unearthed a gang of railway machinery parts thieves.

Giving this information to mediapersons here today, Delhi, RPF, Senior Security Commissioner, R.K. Malik said those arrested has been identified as Satbir Singh, Kalyan Singh and Budh Ram, Delhi Railway employees, and Ashwani Kumar of Ladwa, a junk dealer.

He said acting on a tipoff, a Delhi, RPF team had caught the culprits red-handed. Top

 

One dies of electrocution, 15 injured

Asandh , September 25
One person was killed and at least 15 others injured when one of the persons sitting on the roof of a private bus accidentally touched with a high-tnsion electricity wire this evening.

As per details available, Ram Kumar (46) of Jind was sitting on the roof of the bus along with a few other passengers.

When the driver halted the bus at Asandh for a cup of tea, Ram Kumar stood up to get down from the bus but accidentally touched the high-tension electricity wire. He died on the spot while several other passengers got injured as electric current passed through the bus.

The injured were rushed to the local hospital. Top
