Haryana Akalis back Bhajan Lal Chandigarh, August 29 A number of prominent Haryana Akali leaders have come out in defence of Mr Bhajan Lal, whom certain Sikh leaders of Karnal had accused of not visiting Akal Takht. In a joint statement issued here today, Mr Sukhdev Singh Gobindgarh, President of the Haryana Shiromani Akali Dal; Mr Kartar Singh Takkar, Chief General Secretary of the party; and Mr Didar Singh Habri, a prominent Haryana Akali leader, appreciated Mr Bhajan Lal’s gesture, who, they said, visited not only Harmandir Sahib but also Akal Takht. They said the SGPC President, Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, had described Mr Bhajan Lal’s visit to the Golden Temple as “a constructive work”. They said the party high command had condemned the remarks made by certain Karnal-based Sikh leaders against Mr Bhajan Lal. They said the former Chief Minister was neither a Sikh nor an Akali. Hence, he could not be summoned to Akal Takht. Mr Takkar alleged the Karnal-based Sikh leaders had made the remarks for some vested interests. He said on one hand these leaders were critical of the Chautala Government and on the other hand they were not supportive of Mr Bhajan Lal also. He said there was no third leader in the State. |
White paper on revenue,
expenditure demanded Chandigarh, August 29 Talking to newsmen here, Mr Nirmal Singh said the white paper should also highlight all recruitments made in the state since its inception along with the zone-wise breakdown of the beneficiaries. He alleged that while northern Haryana comprising Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamunanagar, Panchkula and Karnal districts contributed to the state exchequer the most, these areas had always been discriminated against by the successive governments. He said southern as well as central Haryana complained of discrimination because whosoever remained the Chief Minister developed the area to which he belonged. Since most of the time Haryana had been ruled by those belonging to old Hisar district, he was obviously accusing Mr Bansi Lal, Mr Bhajan Lal and Mr Om Prakash Chautala of discriminating against the other parts of the state. Mr Nirmal
Singh said the next elections would be fought on the issues of discrimination and corruption. Power in Haryana had always been centralised in the hands of the Chief Minister and his family. Therefore, an inquiry should be held into the assets of all Chief Ministers. To awaken the people of northern Haryana about discrimination done against them, Mr Nirmal Singh had organised a “Hisaab lagao” rally at Kurukshetra a few months ago. Now he planned to organise a “Hisaab chukao” rally at Kurukshetra soon. Mr Chautala, who had retrenched a large number of employees during the first half of his rule, was now promising 50,000 jobs. These jobs should be equally distributed among people of the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies. |
Coordination between farm experts, farmers stressed Hisar, August 29 Inaugurating the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Mr M. K Miglani, stressed the need for better coordination between farm scientists and field staff and their links with farmers. He said that feedback was an invaluable input for a scientist in his quest for better results. The Vice-Chancellor said agriculture must be made sustainable. At a time when most soils were showing signs of fatigue, land holdings had shrunk and natural resources like water reserves had depleted, scientists should take up the challenge to maintain foodgrains production. He, however, urged farm experts not to overlook fertility status of soils as well as specific needs of the regions while formulating agricultural recommendations. Presiding over the inaugural session, Financial Commissioner-cum-Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Haryana, Mr KS. Bhoria, expressed satisfaction over foodgrain production in the state. He said the average production of wheat, rice and mustard in the state was highest in the country. He, however, expressed concern over the problem of water logging and soil salinity which were affecting the production of crops. |
Rs 83.67 lakh given for constructing roads Fatehabad, August 29 Ms Chowdhary announced that she along with the municipal president and the local councillor would visit each ward of the town and listen to the grievances of the people. He said the mediators played a vital role in resolving family disputes and there had been instances where family disputes could not be resolved within the ambit of law. The Chairman of Haryana Women Commission, Mrs Sheela Bhayans said that the state-government had constituted a women commission to safeguard the interests of women. She said the commission had organised seminars in all districts to redress the grievances of women. The Superintendent of Police, Yamunanagar, Mr Rajinder Singh, said the family counselling centre had done a commendable job. Increments sought for teachers Hisar, August 29 In a press note issued here, the association chief, Dr Narsi Ram Bishnoi, said such increments were granted routinely to all teachers including college teachers in Haryana, but the GJU authorities were denying these to their teachers for no logical reason. He said teachers going to foreign universities on fellowship were being asked to furnish service bonds of up to five years. This had hindered interaction between this university’s faculty and other internationally known varsities. He said while no efforts were being made to provide basic facilities like Internet, intercom, stationery and laboratory to teachers, the authorities expected them to meet unjustified conditions for promotion. He said the association had given the authorities one-month time to fulfil its demands. |

Cultural show found
wanting Ambala, August 29 The variety programme was presented by Song and Drama Division Shimla Centre but it failed to draw much attention of the audience. Lt General B.S.
