Haryana cop’s helping hand to Badal Balasar (Sirsa), June 17 The moment the Kharar based court ordered the search of Balasar farmhouse in connection with finding anything objectionable and incriminating against Mr Narottam Singh Dhillon, a nephew of Mr Badal, arrested in a corruption case Vigilance Bureau, a message was flashed to Haryana state police authorities from the quarters concerned to make foolproof arrangements for it. After getting the message, a large number of police personnel of Sirsa district started descending on Balasar farmhouse and erected a fortification around it. Apart from it, ‘nakas’ were laid on various roads, which led this village from Chandigarh side. Such a huge security arrangements were made that a number of policemen slept on the road leading towards the farmhouse while a large section of police personnel kept on patrolling the area. All vehicles, which came to Balasar farmhouse, were thoroughly checked. Mr M.S. Ahlawat, SP, Sirsa, two DSPs and a of number non-gazetted officials along with a large contingent of policemen remained present in and around the farmhouse when the search was going on, Even some police officials also accompanied the officials of Vigilance Bureau in the farmhouse. He added that as large number of supporters of Mr Badal had assembled in the farmhouse, any untoward incident could have happened, as they were agitated. The motive behind deployment of police force in adequate number was to maintain peace. He said that no police personnel interfered in the search operation. |

Mr Chautala was replying to a question regarding Kandela agitation in Jind district at a press conference after inaugurating a Kisan Bhavan here. Referring to the release of BKU leader Ghasi Ram Nain, the Chief Minister said the matter was in the court and it was not within the purview of the state government. He claimed that all recruitments were made on merit. He held that even his two relatives could not succeed in the Sub Inspectors written test and thus they were not selected. He said only those schools in Haryana which fulfilled the new rules and regulations would be allowed to function from next year. Mr Chautala further said that the base of former Union Minister Ajit Singh had eroded in Haryana as only 700 people participated in Sonepat rally addressed by him. Among those present were Mr Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Agriculture Minister, Mr Balwant Singh
Mayana, Chairman, HSAMB, Mr Bhimsen Mehta, Mr Ramesh Rana, Mr Dharam Pal Sidhpur

HVP is on populist path Chandigarh, June 17 The President of the HVP, Mr Bansi Lal, has promised that if his party came to power, it would reduce the electricity charges for domestic and agriculture consumers. He has gone a step further to appease the agricultural sector by promising that his party’s government would introduce a flat rate for even those tubewells which had been given electricity connections under a special scheme by the Chautala Government. The agriculturists opting for the special scheme get a priority for electricity connections but they are not entitled to the benefit of unmetered power supply. Mr Bansi Lal has also promised that his party would amend the cooperative law to delete the provision of arresting those farmers who fail to repay their loans raised from cooperative institutions. These announcements, which were made yesterday by Mr Bansi Lal at a public meeting held in the Badhra constituency, from where his son-in-law, Mr Narpinder Singh, is the prospective party candidate, are ostensibly aimed at wooing the middle class as well as the farming community, which is the mainstay of the ruling party. Earlier, Mr Bansi Lal had announced a package for the youth, which included a monthly unemployment allowance to the educated youth. He had also been promising a reduction in house tax. When asked whether Mr Bansi Lal was following in the footsteps of the Indian National Lok Dal supremo, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, by promising a reduction in the electricity charges, HVP general secretary Rajiv Jain reacted sharply. He said while Mr Chautala had been promising free power and water when his party was out of power, Mr Bansi Lal never favoured free power or water. But still the HVP President had reduced the tubewell charges from Rs 65 per horse power to Rs 30 per horse power when he was the Chief Minister of the state. He said the credibility of Mr Bansi Lal was very high as people knew that the former Chief Minister never made false promises. Mr Jain said the party’s performance in the two byelections was very encouraging and had enthused the party workers. The results also proved that the people of Haryana were willing to again repose their confidence in Mr Bansi
Lal. |
Cong plan to strengthen
Panchayati Raj Karnal, June 17 The plan calls for providing central annual grants worth Rs 31,000 crore directly to the panchayats and the civic bodies to speed up development. The plan also deals with the problems being faced by members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes. Addressing the conference, Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar said the panchayats were not enjoying the powers that had been envisaged. He said in some states the Panchayati Raj system had been strangulated while in some others the functions and powers had been diluted. Referring to the Fatehabad elections, Mr Bhajan Lal alleged that the state “oppression” kept people from casting their votes. He welcomed Mr Inder Kumar, a BJP councillor, and Mr Bhagwan Dass Gaba, a BJP activist, in the Congress fold. |
INLD out to woo urban voter Chandigarh, June 17 While the state government has stopped the yearly revision of house tax in a bid to soothe the ruffled feathers of the urban voter, the state government in another populist move has done away with the necessary submission of no-objection certificates (NOCs) for transfer of plots. Mr Subhash Goel, Haryana Minister of State for Urban Development, however, said the state government rescinded its earlier order on the submission on NOCs as it was making the sale and purchase of land a cumbersome process. While admitting that NOCs were introduced to check the growth of unauthorised colonies, Mr Goel said the government would continue taking steps against the proliferation of unauthorised colonies. In 35 towns of the state, NOCs were issued by their respective municipal committees while in the remaining 33 towns, these were issued by the Town and Country Planning Department. Such a certificate was needed for the registration of any plot measuring less than 2.5 acres. NOCs were also needed for obtaining a power connection and drinking water and sewerage facilities. Government sources said that the system was introduced primarily to check operations by unscrupulous persons who were erecting new colonies in the state without paying the necessary licence fees. |
Bonus for Haryana Roadways staff announced Kurukshetra, June 17 The Chief Minister said a 360 MW power generation plant was being set up by Panipat Refinery, besides a 500 MW gas-based plant was being set up at Yamunanagar. Mr Chautala said inspite of severe drought in the state, the foodgrain production would be equal to that of last year. He said it was possible due to the 53 per cent power supply to the agriculture sector. He said water courses were being bricklined to harness water for irrigation purposes. Referring the concessions given by the government to traders, he said that octroi had been abolished and a self-assessment scheme up to Rs 5 crore had been introduced in the state for the benefit of the traders. The Chief Minister assured the employees of the Haryana Roadways that their genuine demands would be accepted and the proposal put forward by the Transport Minister would be accepted in toto. He invited the employees to Chandigarh on June 19 in this regard. Earlier, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of an augmentation water supply scheme at Ladwa. He also flagged off 52 truckload of husk for drought-affected areas of Churu district in Rajasthan. |
