BKU blocks traffic for 4th day Jind, June 13 The BKU has said only Haryana Roadways buses and vehicles belonging to the Haryana Government would be stopped under the campaign, but even private vehicles were not allowed to ply on this road, which wore a deserted look. The bus service on the Jind-Bhiwani road also remained disrupted for the fourth day today, as the Haryana Roadways suspended its services for here because of the BKU agitation. The bus service on the
Jind-Barwala road was resumed today after three days. Due to the disruption, commuters are facing hardship and many are stranded at the local bus stand. At Kandela village today, Mr Joginder Singh, state executive president of the
BKU, said the Rasta Roko Andolan and dharna would continue till Mr Ghasi Ram Nain was released. He said the BKU did not want any confrontation with the government and it was in the favour of solving all problems of farmers through talks. He said the BKU had not received any invitation for talks from the government. Regarding opposition from the villagers of
Kandela, Mr Joginder Singh Mor said only Indian National Lok Dal workers were opposing the agitation. Mr Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Jind, and Mr Manjit Singh
Ahlawat, Superintendent of Police, have urged the agitating farmers to lift the blockade. They said the district administration was ready to hold talks with
them. TOHANA (Fatehabad): The administration today pushed up its efforts to get the road blockade near the village of Kanheri on the
Tohana-Hisar road, lifted while farmers continued their dharna for the third day today. Mr Machhinder Singh, district president of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, has been leading the agitation to press for the release of Mr Ghasi Ram
Nain. The Subdivisional Officer (Civil), Mr Satbir Singh Saini, today convened a meeting of prominent persons of Kanheri village in his office. Mr Om
Parkash, husband of the village sarpanch; Mr Mehtab Singh, a former district president of the
BKU, and several other prominent persons of the village attended the meeting. Mr Saini said he hoped that the villagers would lift the blockade by tomorrow. The Haryana Roadways buses plying on this route were diverted to the village of
Prithla, Parta, and Uklana. |
Raids on ultrasound centres, blood banks Hisar, June 13 The team, comprising Dr Sushma Madan and Dr G.P.Saluja, both Deputy Directors of Health Services, Dr G.L. Singhal, Assistant Drug Controller, and Dr L.C, Mittal, Senior Drug Controller, raided four local blood banks, including the government blood bank at the Civil Hospital. According to sources, the officials found many irregularities in the working of the banks. Later, the team raided ultrasound centres here and at nearby towns. They sealed two ultrasound centres at Green Square Market here and at Hansi each. The officials also raided nearly 12 chemist shops here and at Hansi. The team also arrested a chemist shop owner at a local hospital, which was being run without any licence. The officials also sealed two shops. Earlier, the team visited the local Civil Hospital and found four employees, including a doctor, absent. |
End infighting in state unit, say Cong

Kaur, president of the Sonia Gandhi Association, Ambala unit, Mr Ashok
Bhartia; senior Congress leaders, Mr Jai Singh Khera, Mr Shiyad Ahamad
Khan and Mr Ramesh Singhla said the allegation of some Congress
leaders that Mr Saini came to the meeting an inebriated condition, was
not correct. They said a number of other senior leaders were present
at the meeting but none of them levelled such allegation against Mr
Saini. Meanwhile, the former organising secretary of the HPCC, Mr Om
Parkash Malik, in a letter to Ms Sonia Gandhi, has drawn her attention
towards bickering cold war going on among senior Congress leaders of
the state. He said loyal party men were feeling disgusted and wanted
an end to the infighting in the state unit of the Congress. He urged
Ms Gandhi to call a meeting of the senior leaders. |
Sharma: Jai Kishan not in charge of Haryana Cong Chandigarh, June 13 Talking to TNS today, Mr Sharma said while he had asked Mr Jai Kishan to visit Fatehabad on a few occasions during the byelection in the constituency, the latter had not been given the responsibility of looking after the Haryana unit of the party. The Hooda loyalists were upset over Mr Jai Kishan’s alleged statement dismissing Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s demand for holding a special meeting of the HPCC to analyse the Congress candidate’s defeat at Fatehabad. 2 sisters held for getting jobs by cheating Sirsa, June 13 According to the information Gayatri Devi and Raj Chohan were the daughters of Moti Ram Nunia of Karhi Pandy village of UP. They have been living in the local Telianwali street in Sirsa for the past several years. The caste which falls in reserved category in UP is excluded from the list of reserved caste in Haryana. They also received education here in the general category, they sought recruitment in the reserved quota by submitting a fake certificate of reserved caste. Raj Chohan joined in civil hospital Sirsa in 1993 while Gaytri Devi joined in CHC Odhan in 1994. After investigation on May 14 by the police. both of them were-booked under Section 465/468/471 and 12-B of the IPC. They were arrested and presented in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate who sent them in Judicial custody for 14 days. |
Woman commits ‘suicide’, in-laws booked Ambala, June 13 Shashi (28) was married to Surender Kumar, a resident of Patel Road, Ambala City, who is a vegetable seller. Shashi used to stitch clothes. When one of her customers came to her house yesterday to take her clothes, the younger son of Shashi found his mother hanging from a ceiling fan. Later, the police was informed. The case has been registered on the complaint of Jagdish, father of the deceased, against the husband and three other members of his family. Her father alleged that her in-laws had forced her to commit suicide. No arrest has been made so far.
Girl dies Manju (19), a resident of a village near Ambala City, died after accidentally taking some poisonous substance. The girl was brought to the local Civil Hospital in a critical condition yesterday. According to hospital sources, the girl died early this morning. The parents of the girl told the police that Manju had been sick for past several days. Last evening, she consumed an insecticide used for spraying on vegetables in place of a medicine. The police handed over the body to her relatives after post-mortem.
Truck hits scooter A person was killed and two members of his family injured in a road accident near Agarsen Chowk on the Ambala-Hisar road Ambala City this morning. The deceased, Amar Singh, belonged to Barara. He, along with his wife and children, was riding a scooter. when a truck hit him near the railway bridge. Amar Singh died on the spot. The truck driver tried to flee from the spot but the police nabbed him. The police has registered a case against the driver.
Pistol recovered The police has recovered two country made pistols from two persons. Two separate cases have been registered against Joginder Sharma, a resident of Mahesh Nagar and Satvinder Singh, a resident of Pilakhni village. |

claims another life Sirsa, June
13 According to the information received today an unidentified body of a youngman was found lying near the local Jain High School in Bhadra Bazaar. Later he was identified as Miththu of Teetu Khera village. The police sent the body for a post-mortem examination which established the death as caused by heat. A few days back a rickshawpuller was found dead on his rickshaw at the Railway Station and the cause of his death was also reported to be hunger and heat. |
