Haryana MLAs impose themselves on Rajasthan Chandigarh, March 25 The Haryana Vidhan Sabha committees, which have gone on a tour of or to hold meetings in Rajasthan, include the privilege committee, the House committee, the library committee, the public undertakings committee and the subordinate legislation committee. Most of the members of these committees plan to stay in Rajasthan till March 31 when Haryana’s ruling INLD plans to hold a big public meeting in Jaipur to mark the
beginning of its election foray in the desert state. The elections to the Rajasthan Assembly are due later this year. The INLD supremo, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, who hails from Chautala village in Sirsa district, bordering Rajasthan, wants to establish his party in that state in a big way. If he succeeds in his plans, he will be able to avenge the humiliating defeat of his party, which undertook a similar exercise in the western region of UP in the vidhan sabha elections in that state. Since on an average a vidhan sabha committee has 10 members, about 50 MLAs (excluding those belonging to the Opposition) will be able to attend the INLD rally at the cost of the public exchequer. According to informed sources, the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha had informed its counterparts in all states that since its Budget session would begin on February 24, it would not be able to host the vidhan sabha committees from the other states during this period. However, Haryana ignored the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha’s letter and informed the host about the impending tour of various vidhan sabha committees. Rajasthan again wrote to Haryana, referring to its earlier communication, and requested the Haryana Vidhan Sabha to postpone the visit of its various committees. However, Haryana ignored Rajasthan’s request and packed its MLAs to that state. It is not known who has made arrangements for the committees now. |
Political parties ‘befooling farmers’ Jind, March 25 The rally was organised by the state unit of the Rashtriya Lok Dal in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan
Singh. Referring to the Kelkar panel report, Mr Ajit Singh said the Kelkar committee had recommended the imposition of income tax on farmers. He said perhaps the Kelkar committee had recommended income tax on farmers after seeing big farmhouses around Delhi. He said the economists had perhaps no knowledge about the financial position of the farmers. He said the rich country like the USA were giving sufficient subsidy to farmers to improve their financial health. Mr Yudhvir Singh, general secretary, Rashtriya Lok Dal, said the Congress, the Haryana Vikas Party and the Indian National Lok Dal had failed to safeguard the interests of the farmers of the state. He said the farmers should vote the Rashtriya Lok Dal to power as this was the only party which was working in the interests of the farmers. He alleged that the INLD government had committed excesses on the farmers during their agitation at Kandela village in Jind district last year. Two resolutions were adopted at the rally demanding the early completion of Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal and the release of the Bharatiya Kisan Union leader, Mr Ghasi Ram Nain, from jail. |

Mr Chautala also denounced the “dual policy” of the USA, alleging that it was bent upon destroying Iraq on one hand and providing all kinds of support to the “rogue” state of Pakistan on other. The Chief Minister was here to inaugurate the vermiculture project approved by the Centre under the Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY), the first of its kind in the country. The project is likely to cost Rs 9.63 lakh. Babu Parmanand, Governor, and Anna Saheb Patil, Union Minister of State for Rural Development, were also present on this occasion. Seminar on financial
trends Hisar, March 25 General Suhag in his inaugural speech said: We are living in a world where competitive power flows through information and knowledge rather than mere ownership of physical resources. The more informed are more competitive in today’s dynamic world. Information technology is already revolutionising the world and there is a need for managers of modern business to be alive and sensitive to constant changing developments that are taking place in the world economy. Dr. R.K. Chauhan, Vice Chancellor, GJU, said the volume of cross-border trade and investment had been growing more rapidly than global output indicating that national economies were becoming more closely integrated into a single, independent, global economic system. He said in order to meet the challenges posed by liberalisation, globalisation and privatisation , the Indian financial system had to search and revolutionise its roots in terms of financial services. Prof. Satish Kapoor of the University Business School, Punjab University, Chandigarh, in his keynote address said reduction in barriers led to globalisation of markets and production. It was an age of tie-ups and cost of communication and logistics had reduced drastically due to advanced technology. He said pension funds, leasing, hire-purchase and financial derivatives would grow rapidly in financial systems of India on the pattern of global trends. |
