Resist economic terrorism: Medha Patkar Sirsa, March 23 She was speaking at a seminar on Journalism and social concerns and ‘Effects of liberalisation, globalisation and communalism’ organised by the Haryana Unit of the Sampuran Karanti Manch at local Krishi Gyan Kender. She was here as part of countrywide yatra to build public opinion on current issues such as globalisation. The tour began from Kerala on January 26. Ms Patkar expressed anguish over the exploitation of labourers, Dalits, tribal people and women even after 55 years of Independence. She lamented that in the name of globalisation, foreign economic powers were reaping profits while the country was losing rich natural resources. She termed it as economic terrorism. Godhra, Akashardham, Ayodhya and Dharam Sansad were efforts to destroy the common heritage of the country. She said her campaign was to fight communalism, which was behind all these episodes. Yogender

2 drug traffickers convicted Fatehabad, March 23 The convicts will have to undergo a further imprisonment of two years in case of failure of pay the fine. According to reports, a team of CIA staff had raided the residence of Anup Singh, a resident of Nadori village in the district, on May 27, 2000, on a tip-off that he along with Atma Ram was indulged in trafficking of poppy husk. The police seized 17 bags of poppy husk during the raids and arrested them along with Sadhu Ram, a driver. The court acquitted the driver giving him the benefit of doubt but convicted Anup Singh and Atma Ram. |
Servant found murdered Sirsa, March 23 According to information received today, Joginder Singh, son of Nihar Singh of Moriwala village in the district, lodged a complaint with the Ding police that their servant Raj Kumar of Khurd Mora village, in Samastipur of Bihar was found murdered on the night of March 21. The body was found lying in a desolate area by Joginder Singh, who informed the police about it. The Ding police has registered a case and started investigating the matter. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. |
