Yamunanagar, November 17
With all roads leading to the Kapal Mochan Fair near here, the number of pilgrims visiting the mela swelled to nearly five lakh on the second day today.

Devotion held sway as the police and the mela administration worked in tandem to keep any inconvenience or problem at bay. Vehicles are not being allowed beyond a point to avoid any congestion.

While the pilgrims took dips in the three holy sarovars, boatmen, swimmers and divers kept vigil to prevent any accident. Special arrangements have been made for the women visitors, informed Mela Administrator and SDM Renu Phulia. Assisting the administration in the smooth conduct of affairs are a number of social organisations. They have set up langars for the devotees.

Mr Satpal Bhardwaj of the All-India Seva Samiti has been making the pilgrimage since 1956 and helping in its conduct. He informs that this year, 350 social workers are assisting the police, including 50 women at the ghat for women.

A sant of Dera Baba Aulakh Nath, which has been organising a langar, is happy with the provision of kerosene, milk, electricity and drinking water by the administration. Stalls selling items of daily need have been set up and the good lighting provided to give a festive look.

People coming from as far as Bathinda, Sirsa, Fatehabad and Sangrur have varying reasons to visit the fair. While Mr Gamdoor Singh gets spiritual relief, Ms Sukhwinder Kaur feels a dip in the sarovar brings fortune and Mr Santokh Singh has faith that it has healing powers. Mela convener R.K. Sharma says that the information and broadcasting centre set up in the complex was being used to the hilt with more than 1,000 messages and announcements being relayed.
