Workshop on medicinal herbs

Ayurvedic Good Manufacturing Practices unit of Pentavox Herbals organised a seminar-cum-workshop on medicinal herbs for visiting delegates of the EISRA, Holland, here yesterday. The company’s ayurvedacharya, Dr Pradeep Nagrath, gave details about various medicinal herbs and ayurvedic processing through slide presentation and practical demonstration.

The delegation, headed by Dr Anil Mehta, a practicing ayurvedic physician in Holland, comprised three members from Turkey and eight from Holland. Information about new technology and machinery for good manufacturing practices for ayurvedic medicines was also provided to the participants.

The seminar began with traditional vedic mantra chanting and Lord Dhanwantri’s poojan and havan at Dhanwantri temple situated on the factory premises followed by traditional ‘siropa’ and sword presentation to all members of the delegation.

Dr B.S. Aulakh, Dr Sudhir Saini and Dr Nagrath provided information and practical demonstration on medicinal herbs pertaining to their various aspects, including identification, pharmacology, clinical information, traditional and therapeutic uses and their processing techniques for various medicinal purposes.

Pentavox Herbals has been chosen by the EISRA to impart training to its students every year for learning the basics of ayurvedic drugs manufacturing.

Medical camp on epilepsy

Ludhiana, November 10
A free medical camp to provide treatment for epilepsy, fits, mental weakness, convulsions and delayed mile stones was organised at a local hospital, Gill Road, here today. A team of neurologists and child specialists examined more than 200 patients of convulsive disorders. Medicines were distributed, free of cost, among the poor patients.

Dr R S Maheshwari, Director of the hospital, said that about 2 per cent of the population of the country, which comes to about 20 million suffered from this disease.

He said, epilepsy-related disorders and incidents of this disease were increasing because of stressful life. Brutality shown on TV also contributed in the increasing incidence of this disease. Alexander the Great, Vincent Van and Julius Caeser also suffered from epilepsy. This disease had got social stigma in our country and also required long term treatment.

On this occasion, a ‘Continuing Medical Education’ (CME) programme was also organised. Dr Renulata Gupta, Dr Prinja, Dr A P Dubey and Dr Gupta participated in this camp.

Blood donation camp

The NSS unit of Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women organised a blood donation camp yesterday. It was inaugurated by Mrs Kamla Jain, Principal of the college. She exhorted the students to imbibe the spirit of patriotism. As many as 32 students donated blood which was collected by a team of Indian Red Cross Society, Ludhiana.

The camp was organised by Prof Narinder Kaur and Prof Antar Jyoti Ghai, NSS Programme Officers.

Eight teams for kabaddi league

Ludhiana, November 10
Eight top teams of Punjab have confirmed their participation in the inaugural All-India Alankar Tony Kabaddi League to be organised by the Punjab Rural Sports Promotion Council during the various forthcoming rural sports festival meets. According to Mr Jaswant Singh Grewal, chairman of the council, the first match of the league will be played on November 15.

Other teams to take part in this league are Guru Gobind Singh Club of Jalandhar, Alnkar Tony Club of Kubbe village, Shere-e-Punjab California Club of Jalandhar, Dasmesh Club of Rara Sahib, International Kabaddi Club of Moga and Tony Club of Kaalakh village.
