Quake in Iran leaves 12 hurt
Tehran, September 26
A powerful quake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit western Iran today, damaging several villages and injuring 12 persons, officials said. The state radio said 12 small villages were hit, and 12 persons were injured. The report said none of those hurt were in a serious condition, adding that only one person needed to be hospitalised. Tehran University’s geophysics centre said the quake struck an area near the town of Masjid-e-Sulayman in Khuzestan province at 1:58 a.m. local time yesterday.

Ram Pathak dead
Nagpur, September 26
Musician and composer Ram Pathak passed away here today due to old age, family sources said. He was 85. A native of Pune, Ram Pathak had worked with the All India Radio, Nagpur from 1957 to 1967 and later at the Pune station from 1967 till 1978. He had the honour of working with classical greats like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Begum Parvin Sultana during his career.
