Rape case transferred to CBI
Chandigarh, September 11
The Chandigarh Administration transferred the rape case involving a Shimla district resident to the CBI, here today. The alleged rape had taken place on August 14. Ever since the case was registered, allegations and counter-allegations had “created an air of suspense”.

Jagmohan spells out plan

Anandpur Sahib, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Kurukshetra, Shimla, Manali, Ladakh and Baba Rishi regions in Jammu and Kashmir will be developed by the Union Tourism and Culture Ministry.

Second appeal issue for larger Bench
Chandigarh, September 11
In less than 48 hours after Mr Justice Amar Dutt of the Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled that all appeals after July 1 would have to be filed before the court which passed the decree and were not directly maintainable in the High Court, Mr Justice V.M. Jain today referred the matter to a larger Bench after holding that there was a direct conflict between the order pronounced on September 9 and his orders issued on September 5.

Sidhu's bail plea dismissed
Chandigarh, September 11
The bail plea moved by the suspended Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu, under the Arms Act was today dismissed by a local court. The court has also rejected the plea moved by Sidhu to get the translated copy of the police challan in the English language.

CPCB issues fresh guidelines for industrial units

Industrial units in Chandigarh will now have to deal with a new set of stringent rules to control pollution which is being spread due to affluent discharge from the industries. This comes after fresh guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board.

The UT Administration today reconstituted the State Legal Service Authority for Chandigarh comprising officials and non-officials members to exercise the powers and perform the functions conferred on or assigned to it under the State Legal Service Authority Act as per the UT Administration notification released here.
