CM: govt to ensure security for all Hisar, March 2 He was addressing reporters here after inaugurating a government dairy complex. He said some anti-social elements wanted to disturb peace following the Godhra incident. The government would ensure security of all religious places and minority communities at all cost. No one would be allowed to create a law and order problem in the state, he added. Mr Chautala said though the state government was trying to provide basic facilities to all people but some farmer leaders were misleading farmers for getting political mileage. Such leaders were collecting illegal donations from farmers in the name of kisan unions. The government would also deal firmly with them, he added. He appealed to the people not to pay heed to such elements as Haryana was the most peaceful state in the country. The Chief Minister said that his government had decided to shift cattle dairies outside 16 towns of the state. This would help the administration to beautify these towns. He said the government would also shift all transport companies outside the cities in the near future to reduce pollution. The government would also construct entertainment parks in the main towns of Haryana. Referring to the Khanak dispute, he said earlier the government had auctioned the mines of Khanak villages for Rs 28 lakh only to its supporters. But his government auctioned these mines for Rs 7 crore this year. The government would also earn Rs 18 crore in the shape of different taxes from these mines. He said only those people were misleading the labourers who had earned illegal money from these mines. |

Mr Malik also expressed satisfaction over the safety of the members of the minority community who were rescued by the police and civil administration and were shifted to safer
places. He said additional police force was being provided to the district administration in view of the prevailing situation. He appealed to the people to maintain communal harmony and peace. On the other hand the District Magistrate, Mr Phateh Singh Dagar, and SP, Mr A.S Chawla, called a meeting of citizens today and sought their cooperation in normalising the situation. They also asked them to remain vigilant against the activities of

Congress to gherao Assembly Chandigarh, March 2 Talking to TNS, Mr Dharam Vir, Congress MLA from Tosham, confirmed that Congress MLAs would take part in the March 5 programme. Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, HPCC chief, and five party MLAs, including Mr Dharam Vir, would visit the affected areas tomorrow to listen to the grievances of the mine workers. Meanwhile, a Congress party spokesman said the party legislators would also bring an adjournment motion under Rules 66 and 67 in the Assembly session starting from Monday to discuss the issue of unrest among the workers at Khanak, Nigana and Dadam mining areas of Bhiwani district due to the extortion racket. This was decided at a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) here today, the spokesman said and added that people of 35 villages of Tosham and Bawani Khera areas had been earning their livelihood by carrying out mining for almost three decades. Certain mines of Khanak and Dadam were leased up to 2004 by the Mining Department. However, on December 12, certain persons put up "nakas" on roads and allegedly started collecting Rs 1,000 per truck and Rs 250 per tractor trailer. The spokesman said it was decided at the meeting to raise the issue in the house and demand action against those guilty and withdrawal of cases against workers who were agitating against the extortion. While the CLP had met here today, the legislators of INLD would meet tomorrow at the Chief Minister's residence to be briefed about the floor strategy of the INLD during the session, Mr Sampat Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister of Haryana, said. On the deterioration of the INLD's relation with the BJP and its possible fallout during the session of the House, Mr Sampat Singh said the goodwill between the INLD and the BJP could be assessed from the fact that even when BJP was in alliance with the HVP in Haryana, the INLD had offered support to the Vajpayee government at the Centre. |

Civil hospital goes without an anaesthetist Ambala, March 2 The Civil Hospital of Ambala city is a district-level hospital. Round-the-clock emergency services are available here. Accident and serious cases, needing immediate surgery are referred to this hospital from various hospitals of the district. The hospital has two senior surgeons and one orthopaedic doctor. More than two dozen surgeries are conducted here in a week routinely. In most of the cases the surgeon requires the services of an anaesthetist. Patients who come to the hospital to avail themselves of free surgery have to pay Rs 1,000 for availing a private anaesthetist's service. In addition to this patients also have to pay for blood testing, X-rays and ultrasound. Moreover, they have to purchase most of the medicines from the market required during operation. Recently, a woman from rural area was admitted to the hospital. She was required to undergo surgery due to a serious gynaecological problem immediately. The doctor asked her relatives to private anaesthetist and they in turn contacted a private anaesthetist who demanded Rs 1,000 from them. Relatives of the woman did not have the money on them. They came back to the hospital and requested the surgeon to summon an anaesthetist at his os level and promised to refund the amount to him the next day. The doctor summoned an anaesthetist at his own risk. The patient's relatives could arrange only Rs 800 by the next evening. The surgeon, who had arranged the anaesthetist, had to pay Rs 200 from his own pocket. Patients are of the view that hospital authorities should arrange a temporary anaesthetist till the regular one returns. They urged the Deputy Commissioner to direct the Civil Surgeon to make arrangements at the earliest. The Civil Surgeon, Dr S.L. Kaushik said that there were aware of the problem and the matter had been taken up with the authorities. |
