Universal Chandigarh, May 28 Responding to charges levelled by RPI MLA Karan Singh Dalal at a press conference here on Saturday, a spokesperson of the Haryana Town and Country Planning Department claimed that the Cabinet had revised the commercial licensing policy. “The Cabinet which met here on September 29, 2000, had revised the commercial licensing policy by including V-I roads also for commercial licenses along with V-2 and V-3 roads and therefore, no special relaxation was granted to DLF as mischievously alleged by Mr Dalal”, the spokesman said. The statement added that similar commercial establishments were allowed to be constructed by many colonisers and developers prior to 1997 also in the shape of regular commercial component on the national highway with provision of service road (in residential sectors). HUDA had also set up its City Centre (commercial sector) in Sector 29 at Gurgaon on the national highway going to Jaipur which was also a V-I road in the development plan, it said. |

Dalal’s charges ‘baseless’ Chandigarh, May 28 A spokesman of the government said the state Cabinet at its meeting on September 29 last year had revised the relevant policy by including V-1 road for commercial licences. As such, no special relaxation was given to DLF, as alleged by Mr Karan Singh Dalal, MLA. The spokesman further maintained that the allegation of causing loss to the state exchequer was mischievous and not based on facts. |

Enteritis cases on the
rise Jhajjar, May 28 According to sources in the Health Department, five cases of diarrhoea were attended to by the doctors. However, the patients were discharged soon. They were labourers at brick-kilns in Bavra, Giravar and Birdhan villages. At least 11 such cases had also been reported at the government hospital till yesterday. Some of them were serious and were reportedly referred to the PGI in Rohtak. Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer dismissed these cases as diarrhoea cases. He said the labourers got the disease due to eating of contaminated meat in most of the cases. The CMO, has, however, constituted five teams of health officials which will visit Bahadurgarh, Beri, Jhajjar, Dhakala and Jamalpur to investigate such cases. He has also issued some instructions as precautionary measures to prevent diseases like cholera, typhoid, dengue, viral and malaria etc. He said all wells in the villages will be chlorinated twice a week. Samples of water supplied by the Public Health Department had also been taken for testing and use of the hand pump water had been banned, he added. |
Steps to check typhoid in
Tohana Fatehabad, May 28 After the report regarding the deaths was published in The Tribune today, the Senior Director of Health Services, Haryana, Dr J.L. Chowdhary, rushed to Tohana today. He had a meeting with the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr C.R. Rana, the Civil Surgeon, Dr Usha Majitha, the District Health Officer, Dr Balbir Singh Beniwal, and the Executive Engineer, PWD (Public Health), Mr Gurbax Singh in the General Hospital Tohana. He discussed the strategy to combat the outbreak of the disease, with the officials. Talking to this correspondent, Dr Chowdhary gave details of the measures being taken to meet the challenge. He said five mobile teams of
para-medical staff had been constituted to conduct a mass fever survey in the town and surrounding areas. The teams will collect blood samples of the patients for detecting malaria. Besides, a pathologist from Hisar, Dr
J.R. Varma, has been specially deputed at Tohana to take serum samples for culture tests for typhoid. A special campaign is being launched to educate people regarding prevention of water from diseases. The people are being warned against the use of hand pump water for drinking purposes. Halogen tablets were being distributed among people and they are being advised to put these in their water storage tanks and pitchers. The people are also being advised against the use of cut fruit and vegetables, he added. |

CM to lay stone of
polytechnic
Sirsa, May 28 Stating this here today, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ankur Gupta, revealed that the college would be constructed on 20 acres which had been gifted by the village panchayat. The setting up of a polytechnic college in the village had been a long-standing demand of the villagers which was again raised in front of Chief Minister while he was on tour of the Rori Assembly constituency under “sarkar apke dwar” programme after the Assembly elections in February last year. Mr Chautala had then conceded to the demand and assured them to open a polytechnic college in the village if the panchayat provided land for it. Now, the panchayat had passed a resolution to donate 20 acres and to name the institute after former Deputy Prime Minister, late Chaudhary Devi Lal. According to information, the Chief Minister would also hear public grievances of the Assembly constituency at PWD rest house on May 30. Mr Chautala would also preside over a meeting of INLD MLAs and party office-bearers at Welcome Palace on the Barnala road. According to information, meeting of party MLAs and office-bearers had been called for introspection on the policies adopted by the government and to strengthen the worker base of the party in the state. Mr Gupta said an ‘open darbar’ would be organised in the market committee premises of Rania where the grievances of the people of the Ellenabad constituency would be redressed by the Chief Minister on the spot. The open darbars under ‘sarkar apke dwar’ for the Sirsa and the Ellenabad Assembly constituencies are being organised for the first time after Mr Chautala became the Chief Minister in February last year. |

Bhiwani rally put off Hisar, May 28 According to a spokesman for the mahapanchayat of these villages, the decision was taken at a meeting of the mahapanchayat at Kunwari village last evening. Though Mr Chautala was supposed to attend the meting to make a formal announcement in this regard but he could not reach due to other engagements at Delhi. The mahapanchayat had decided to hold a rally at Bhiwani against the partiality in the supply of irrigation water to the area. Assessing the situation, Mr Chautala called on the members of the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti last week and assured them that he would ensure eight-day supply of water in a month in the Sunder branch. The mahapanchayat also decided to give one week’s time to Mr Chautala. The spokesman said if the MP failed to do so, it would decide its future course of action at a meeting on June 5. |

chief Sonepat, May 28 Inaugurating a two-day state-level convention of the morcha on the premises of Shri Ram Krishan Sadhna Ashram at Murthal village, 8 km from here, yesterday, he said Mr Chautala should not interfere in the internal working of the BJP. He alleged that for his self-interest, Mr Chautala was bent upon creating instability both in the state and at the Centre. The BJP leader said the uplift of the downtrodden was being given top priority by the NDA government and the strength of ministers belonging to the weaker sections of society had increased in the Union Cabinet. He criticised the BSP and its Chairman, Mr Kanshi Ram, and Samajwadi Party leaders for misleading people belonging to the Scheduled Castes regarding the revision of the Constitution. Nearly 100 delegates from all over the state are taking part in this convention. Most of them raised the Tehelka issue and wanted clarifications on it. |

Two held with
stolen car Kurukshetra, May 28 The arrested have been identified as Ravinder Kumar, alias Babbli and Pushkar Raj Mehta from whose possession, a stolen Maruti car has been recovered. They have been remanded in police custody till June 1. Confirming this here today, the district police chief, Mr Desraj Singh, said that a social worker informed the police that Ravinder Kumar, alias Babbli, and his accomplice Puskar Raj Mehta were having a stolen Maruti car, the fake documents of which were got prepared from the local licensing authority. Both of them were engaged in stealing cars from other cities, including Chandigarh and Delhi and selling these stolen vehicles after getting registered in different names from different stations, the social worker added. On this tip off, the police party set up a naka near Sirsma village on Kurukshetra-Ladwa road and according to the available information, a Maruti car No. HR29-6175 was intercepted. The car was being driven by Ravinder, alias Babbli. The police chief said the police, during search, recovered two number plates bearing number HR 07 E-2266 and a registration chit bearing same number in the name of Pushkar Raj. This registration chit was issued by licensing authority Kurukshetra. |
3 held for trespassing on
women’s hostel Sonepat, May 28 The Superintendent of Police, Mr Paramjit Singh Ahlawat, told mediapersons here today that the fourth suspect, Vijay, was absconding. A hunt was on to apprehend him, he said. A case under Sections 452, 186, 353, 506 and 34, IPC, was registered on the complaint of the chowkidar. The SP said the youths asked the chowkidar to open the main gate, but he declined. Thereupon, they entered the premises by scaling the hostel wall. Vijender threatened chowkidar with a pistol. However, as the warden and other staff reached the spot, the youths fled. Mr Ashok Yadav, Additional Deputy Commissioner said three security guards had been deputed in the hostel to check such incidents. |
Villagers threaten to burn liquor vend Sonepat, May 28 It is learnt that the residents are disturbed at the incident of assault by swords and guns on a resident of the village by the supporters of the liquor vend recently. The police has arrested two persons in this connection and two more are absconding.
