Professional as PGIMS
Director Rohtak, May 20 The Association, in a statement, however, has accepted that the government has the prerogative to appoint or remove any persons to the post of the Director of the PGIMS. The association said that resentment prevailed among the faculty for treating them on a par with the Ayurvedic, veterinary and other medical professional in total disregard of higher medical qualifications required for joining this institute as a member of the faculty. In addition, the Association said the faculty of the PGIMS was also responsible for teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students besides being involved in research. The Association claims that the higher status of the Post Graduate Institutes like PGI, Chandigarh and AIIMS of Delhi have been acknowledged by the highest courts of the country and their faculty granted higher scales than their counterparts in other medical colleges. The Association, therefore, appealed to the government to restore superior status of the institute and grant its faculty pay scales and allowances including NPA at the rate of 25 per cent of the basic pay. The Association pointed out that the emoluments of the faculty of this institute were the lowest among the medical institutions of the surrounding states or the central government. It is because of these reasons that a number of faculty members have left the institute and a large number of faculty positions were vacant, compromising quality of work. Another long- pending demand of the Association is the implementation of three tier system and 100 per cent promotion on the pattern of the central government. |
Sandhu harps on steps for farmers’
welfare Kaithal, May 20 Mr Sandhu said the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, and the Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, had prevailed upon the Prime Minister to increase the maximum support price (MSP) of wheat by Rs 30 per quintal, whereas the opposition parties were saying that the government would get the MSP reduced. Mr Sandhu further stated that when Devi Lal was the Chief Minister in 1977 he had introduced a scheme to compensate those farmers whose crops were damaged in hailstorms, etc and provided them relief at the rate of Rs 600 per acre. But the present government had increased the rate of compensation from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000 per acre. He also stated that cooperative sugar mills had cleared the outstanding payments of farmers till
February. The private sugar mills had also been directed to clear the arrears, if any, at the earliest. Families of those killed during agriculture-related activities were being provided a compensation of Rs 50,000 by the Haryana Agricultural Marketing Board, he added. Moreover, farmers selling crops for more than Rs 5000 were being given prize coupons. The Agriculture Minister informed the mediapersons that 50 sheds were being constructed in the state mandis.
