Anandgarh planners visualise
dream city

CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — Containing vehicular pollution through people-oriented traffic management and building a self-sufficient city, unlike the satellite towns of Chandigarh, are among the key areas of focus in the concept master plan of the proposed Anandgarh City submitted to the Punjab Government by the shortlisted master planner.

TAFE may set up distant learning centres
CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — The Western Australian TAFE College System may soon set up its distant learning centres in India to provide an international vocational education and training market, says its Managing Director, Dr Barry Bannister.

Drowned man’s body surfaces after 6 days
CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — Six days after he jumped into Sukhna Lake, the body of a 36-year-old Dadu Majra resident surfaced today. Mystery had shrouded his death, as the divers deployed by the Chandigarh Police, to search the depths of the lake, had failed to trace him till today morning, despite repeated attempts and “best efforts”.

CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — Shyam Kumar, a Border Roads Organisation personnel, has reported to the police that his suitcase was stolen while he was travelling from Roorkee to Chandigarh by a UP Roadways bus.

Man stabbed for Rs 250
CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — In a case of utter lawlessness, a Maloya Colony resident was reportedly stabbed by four unidentified persons, before being robbed of Rs 250 in front of Sector 17 football ground gate, late on Wednesday evening.

Teachers’ protest on Dec 12
CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — There will be no teaching work in nearly 165 private colleges of Punjab on December 12. Teaching work will also remain suspended in seven colleges of the city.

Schools for girls to be improved
CHANDIGARH, Dec 7 — As many as 90 girls’ schools have been selected in the state for infrastructure upgradation. The funds for this purpose will be provided by the Union Government. Each school will get about Rs 8 lakh for this purpose. The Union Government has set aside Rs 30 crore in the next four years for promoting girls’ education in the state.

Bail rejected in NDPS case
Chandigarh, Dec 7 — The UT Additional District and Session Judge, Mr R.C. Godara, today dismissed the bail application moved by a resident of Anantnag, Mian Mohamad Farooq, in a narcotics drugpeddling and smuggling case.

Chandigarh, Dec 7 — The Indian tennis team coach, Ramesh Krishnan, today reached city as part of the training programme initiated by the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association at the CLTA courts, Sector 10. Ramesh said the Chandigarh boys, including Sunil Kumar, the national champion, and Davis Cupper were shaping well. He also complimented the facilities being provided to them.

Administration clarification on registration forms
Chandigarh, Dec 7 — The Chandigarh Administration today said allegations appearing in sections of the Press in respect of the non-inclusion of a separate column for Sikhs in the registration forms in the office of Registrar, Birth and Death in Chandigarh, were incorrect.
