Grant for disabled-friendly toilets in govt schools released Nawanshahr, September 22 Deputy Commissioner Anindita Mitra said taking cognigance of the reports regarding problems being faced by disabled students in the absence of special toilets in the schools, the specially designed toilets for the convenience of physically challenged students would be constructed. Special toilets for girls would also be constructed in 37 schools of the district. For this, funds to the tune of Rs 72.89 lakh have been released, she added. Besides, identifying two students for free surgery, 73 disbabled students would also be provided with 88 helping equipments. Giving further details of bringing improvement in school infrastructure in the district, she said 20 schools deprived of compounding wall, had been given grants of Rs 66.58 lakh for constructing 1,930 metres of wall. As many as 4,801 students of government school had been covered under School Health programme last month. Out of these, 13 were provided with free spectacles. Moreover, 26,253 students of primary and 19,813 of upper primary schools were given mid-day meal last month. With a view to equipping the students of government schools, imparting computer knowhow, 228 computer labs had been set-up in the schools of district, she added. Man killed in road accident
