Govt flayed for ‘anti-employee’ policies

Employees of the different departments, teachers, ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers under the aegis of Sanjha Mulazam Morcha staged a dharna here in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office today to protest against the alleged anti-employee policies as well as unannounced ban on payment of salaries and other bills from the treasuries. 

Youth flees after firing in GNDU College

The ongoing elections for the student body of Guru Nanak Dev University College, Chung led to firing on the college campus here last night. No casualty has been reported though the situation was said to be tense in the college.

Teenager abducted 
Tarn Taran, September 20
A teenaged girl from Sarhali village, 22 km from here, was abducted from her house under mysterious circumstances. The mother of the victim in her complaint to the police said her daughter was abducted from her house when all the family members had gone to attend a function. The Sarhali police has registered a case under Sections 363, 366-A, of the IPC and investigating the matter.

Govt flayed for ‘anti-employee’ policies

Nawanshahr, September 20
Employees of the different departments, teachers, ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers under the aegis of Sanjha Mulazam Morcha staged a dharna here in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office today to protest against the alleged anti-employee policies as well as unannounced ban on payment of salaries and other bills from the treasuries. 

Addressing the rally, Bhupinder Singh Warraich, state president, Democratic Teachers Front, Harinder Dosanjh (Sanjha Mulazam Morcha), Balbir Kumar, (Democratic Teachers Front), Shakuntla Devi (ASHA Workers Union), Nanak Chand ( PWD Union), Gurbaksh Kaur Sangha( Istri Jagriti Manch), among others, flayed the state government for alleged anti- employee policies, rampant corruption and fiscal mess.

They also demanded declaration of DA on the Central Government pattern and release of payments of previous DA instalments.

 Youth flees after firing in GNDU College

The ongoing elections for the student body of Guru Nanak Dev University College, Chung led to firing on the college campus here last night. No casualty has been reported though the situation was said to be tense in the college.

The Bhikhiwind police has registered a case under Sections 336, 506,148,149 of the IPC, and Sections 25,27,54,59 of the Arms Act.

Kashmir Singh, peon-cum-chaukidar of the college said to the police in his statement that five to six motorcyclists came to the college and opened fire in the air. The accused managed to escape from the spot after the incident. The ongoing election to the student body of the college was said to be the cause behind the firing.

No arrest has been made so far.The police is investigating the matter.

Student booked for molesting girl

Bikramjit Singh, a student of Shahid Bhagat Singh Polytechnic College, Patti has been booked under Sections 323, 354, 354-A of the IPC by the Patti police for molesting his classmate.

The victim, Palwi Kumari, a resident of Bihar, is a student of semester V of diploma-in-computer. The girl in her complaint to the police alleged that when she objected over his advances the accused beat her up in presence of other students. The accused fled from the spot when teacher Jaspreet Kaur, and other students came for the rescue of the victim. Raids have been conducted to arrest the accused who was absconding.

West Bengal resident arrested

Patrolling party of the BSF arrested Shankar Durji, a resident of West Bengal, who was moving under mysterious circumstances from Khemkara Sector, 45 km from here, last evening . The accused has been booked under Section 188 of the IPC by the Khemkaran police.

 Woman, child die in accident

Hoshiarpur, September 20
A woman and child were killed and four other family members were wounded when their car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Bhulpur village last evening.

The police said, Rupinder Kaur, wife of an NRI Rajinder Singh and Abhijeet (4), son of Bhupinder Singh of Bhulpur succumbed to their injuries at the Civil Hospital, Tanda last evening.

The other injured persons Rajinder Singh, his father Balbir Singh, niece Manpreet Kaur and brother Bhupinder Singh who were also admitted in the Civil Hospital, Tanda from where all had been referred to a Jalandhar hospital under critical condition.

All were wounded when their car No PB-07AK-2335 in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Bhulpur village.

Body found

Ram Dhani (27), son of Mohinder Parsad of Bhim Nagar, found dead in Mohalla Ramgarh this morning.

The police said, the body was bearing several injury marks. He was running a mobile junk shop on his bicycle in the city.

He left his house for collecting junk goods on his bicycle yesterday morning. His bicycle was found abandoned at Mohalla Ramgarh.

Following the recovery of his body, members of his family along with some neighbours blocked traffic for about an hour at the Prabhat Chowk to pressurise the police to register a case of murder and arrest the culprits.

The Model Town police has registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC.

Two commit suicide

A man and his wife committed suicide by jumping from a running train near Dhilwan village in Jalandhar district last evening.

The police said, Amrish (26) and his wife Khajuria (24), residing in jhuggies near a local choe (seasonal rivulet) were married about five years ago and had a three-year-old daughter. Both were in the business of selling toys and went to Dhilwan village about four days ago. While returning in the train, they had a quarrel on some issue which provoked Amrish who slapped his wife which enraged his wife Khajuria. Under a fit of rage she jumped from the train near Dhilwan village. To save his wife, Amrish also jumped from the train and both died. After taking their bodies in its custody, the GRP police conducted postmortem and handed over their bodies to their relatives.
