Kalia seeks ROBs at level crossings in city areas

Jalandhar, September 12
Former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia has urged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to take up the issue of the construction of railway overbridges (ROBs) or railway underbridges (RUBs) at five level crossings in different areas of his assembly segment, Jalandhar (Central), with the Union Railways Minister.

Talking to The Tribune, Kalia said he met Badal in Chandigarh last week and formally submitted a letter to him in this regard for the construction of ROBs or RUBs for the convenience of the general public.

"These crossings remain closed most of the time, as daily nearly 200 trains pass through the Dhannowali and Dakoha crossings, located on the Amritsar-Delhi and Delhi-Jammu tracks, whereas nearly 150 trains pass through the Ladhewali, Guru Nanak Pura and Bashirpura crossings on the Amritsar-Delhi track everyday."

"These crossings remain closed most of the time, creating inconvenience to the residents residing in the adjoining localities. As now many colonies have come up around these crossings, road traffic using these crossings has increased manifold in recent years. Valuable time of residents as well as p petrol and diesel go waste at these crossings in wait for getting these crossings to open."
