Committee members get threats
Tarn Taran, September 4 The president of the committee and other members has written a letter to the SSP and the other authorities in this regard. A case under Sections 295, 379, 448, 506, 452, 148 and 149 of the IPC has already been registered against the accused by Bhikhiwind police. The accused in the case were Sukhwant Singh, chairman, block samiti, Bhikhiwind, his brother Major Singh besides forty others. Sukhwant Singh, Major Singh, Dilbag Singh have been arrested by the police. Khushi Ram said after the residents and the devotees pressurised the police had to arrest the accused on same day but no further arrest has been initiated subsequently. The accused had damaged the four walls of the Mandir and had taken away the holy idols of the Mandir including the Shiv Ling and idol of Kali Devi on August 28. Parvesh Kumar and Khushi Ram said they were being threatened by the supporters of the arrested accused. They said the idol of Kali Devi has not been recovered from the accused. |

Hoshiarpur, September 4 Mukerian police has arrested Gurmail Kumar of Purana Bhangala and seized 100 gram intoxicated powder from him. Garhshankar police has arrested Paramjit singh of ward No 3, Garhshankar and seized 2000 pills of Momotil from him. Tanda police has arrested Sanjiv Kumar of Pandori Sumlan and seized 50 gram intoxicated powder from him. Mahilpur police has arrested Harminder Kumar of Raipur Gujran and seized 10 Kg poppy husk from him. Similarly, Mehtiana police has arrested Pardeep Kumar of Ranjit Nagar and seized 1500 pills of Momotil from him. All the accused were booked under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. One held for fraud Sewa Singh, son of Gurditta Singh, of Thinda Chipra was allegedly duped of Rs 7.50 lakh by a travel agent on the pretext of sending his sons abroad. He alleged that Gursaran Singh of Hajipur took Rs 7.50 lakh for sending his sons Sukhbir Singh abroad. But the accused neither sent his sons abroad nor returned his money. Hajipur police has arrested Gursaran Singh under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC. |

Two accused flee from police custody
Tarn Taran, September 4 The police said the accused have been identified as Kirpal Singh of Nagoke village and Malkiat Singh of Kotli Saru Khan village. The members of the police party were Heera Singh, ASI, leading the party, besides head constable Bhupinder Singh and home guard Balwinder Singh. The accused along with their associate Fateh Singh of Keeri Shahi village were arrested by the police a day before yesterday. A case under Section 223 and 224 of the IPC has been registered against the accused and three members of the police party. — OC
