Plot owners oppose regularisation policy

Nawanshahr, September 17
Notwithstanding the directions of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to the deputy commissioners (DCs) to hard sell the revised policy of regularisation of unauthorised colonies, the property dealers and plot holders are not ready to accept it.

On the directions of the Deputy Chief Minister, Deputy Commissioner Tanu Kashyap held meetings with the property dealers, plot holders, and organised awareness camps at the subdivision level and even set up a special counter here at suvidha centre for the convenience of the people to submit their applications for regularisation of the colonies and residential plots.

But, the property dealers and plot owners have just attended the meetings and awareness camps to get themselves acquainted with the revised policy and instead of submitting applications, they have chosen the path of agitation to protest against the levying of taxes.

\The Property Dealers and Plot Holders Asociation, today, held a protest rally to raise the demand of regularisation of colonies on Delhi pattern.

Addressing the rally, former Municipal Council president, Lalit Mohan Pathak and District Congress president, Satvir Singh Palli Jhikki said the plot holders had already paid taxes at the time of registeration of their sale deeds, approving maps from Municipal Council, obtaining power, sewerage and water supply connections etc., hence, it was quite illogical to impose more taxes on them.

Harbhajan Lal (60), son of Kartar Chand of Chakowal Sheikhan village, was burnt alive on the intervening night of Septemebr 15 and 16, when he was sleeping in a room, made on the land of Vijay Kaushal of the same village.

Harbhajan was a smoker and used to sleep in a room constructed by Vijay. Yesterday morning, when the latter came to his fields, he noticed smoke emitting from the said room. He immediately contacted the village panchayat and later informed the Bulhowal police.

It is suspected that after smoking, the deceased Harbhajan threw a smouldering “biri” in the room, which came in contact with some goods lying nearby, causing the fire.
