Bajwa fails to attend committee meetings
Gurdaspur, August 13 The last meeting was held on October 12 last year and was chaired by the MP. Interestingly, these meetings are seldom attended by the SAD-BJP legislators, as they are chaired by Partap Bajwa, a Congress MP. The ruling party MLAs, including parliamentary secretary GS Babbehali, think it is inappropriate to take orders from a politician who doesn’t belong to their party. These meetings are suppose to be held on a quarterly basis to discuss the usage of funds allotted to the Gurdaspur Parliamentary constituency by the Central government for schemes like MGNREGA, IAY and Pardhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). A top official said these meetings had lost their relevance due to the incoherent and incongruous political set up. “We work under ministers belonging to the SAD-BJP combine. However, during these Monitoring committee meetings, we are bound to obey the diktats of the Congress MP. We are still ready to take orders from him on certain issues but things get a bit difficult when these Congress politicians start shouting at us just because we work under a dispensation controlled by the SAD-BJP combine,” he said. A senior official claimed that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) has to play the role of a referee to perfection otherwise there is every chance that things may well go for a six. “At the last meeting, had the DC Abhinav Trikha not played an active role in pacifying the Congress leaders, things could have gone from bad to worse,” remarked an official. However, now with the MP busy with his mass contact programme, officials can heave a sigh of relief. |
