Mayor spots open power cables
Ludhiana, August 13
After a man died due to lack of safety grills on the Elevated Road, recently, and residents protested against the municipal corporation, Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria visited the accident site on the Elevated Road today and found the cables on the electricity poles open, which could lead to any accident.

City to have its own radio channel from August 16
Ludhiana, August 13
Ludhiana has become the fifth city in the country after Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata to have its own FM Gold radio channel to be run by the country's public broadcaster, Prasar Bharti.

A Tribune Photograph After an RTI activist, Arvind Sharma, complained against two gas agencies that were selling LPG cylinders on a tractor trailer alongside a road and overcharging consumers, the District Food and Civil Supply Officer (Payal) swung into action today and conducted raids at Sargodha Colony.

‘Drug addicts more prone to crime’

Drug addiction has emerged out as a single major factor responsible for all socio-economic problems rising among the youths of any strata of society today. Social organisations led by the Rotary Club president, Pardeep Sethi, and the Lions Club president, Inder Pal Singh Walia, have announced to launch a coordinated movement to aware the youths about designated set of cultural and allied norms in already endangered demographic set up.

A 25-year-old labour was killed in a blast at a factory in Mandi Gobindgarh today. The blast took place when the victim was working at a furnace mill in Guru Ki Nagri, M/s Taksis Steel Limited.

CBSE to change assessment pattern
Ludhiana, August 13
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to change the assessment pattern for classes IX and X. A circular has also been sent to schools stating that students from classes IX and X will have to appear for two summative assessments (SA) and score 25 per cent.

Eight LPU students arrested
Khanna, August 13
Eight youths, studying in Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar, were arrested by the Khanna police on a suspicion of committing loot and robberies in the region. The youths dressed in black innerwears were allegedly spotted by the villagers, performing ‘thikri pehras’, in Mandiala Kalan village and Kot Panaich late at night. Following the rumours of robberies by the Kala Kachha gang and the African gang, the villagers had initiated the practice of ‘thikri pehra’ to prevent thefts and loot.

Banned drug Finotel seized, one held 
Khamano August 13
Sanghol chowki police, falling under Khamano police station, has arrested a youth and seized intoxicants from his possession. Chowki incharge, Assistant Sub-Inspector Baljinder Singh said they had laid a naka on the Sanghol-Ranwan road and while inspecting a scooter, as many as 1200 tablets of a drug, Finotel, was recovered. The youth riding the scooter tried to flee, but the police team managed to get hold of him.

SAI to conduct trials again
Ludhiana, August 13
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, Ludhiana, will conduct trials again in two disciplines, judo and athletics, to shortlist talented players for their admission in the session 2013-14. The trials will be held here at Guru Nanak Stadium on August 16 and 17 to select aspirants between the age group of 12 and 18 years (athletics as well as judo) boys only under the residential scheme, besides boys and girls in the day boarding scheme.
