Mussoorie, June 2
Chaotic scenes marred the first meeting of the newly elected Mussoorie Municipal Council here today. Some of its members tried to remain ahead of each other to raise development issues.

MC president Manmohan Singh Mall said "unwanted" works recommended by the previous council would be cancelled and only those works would be approved that were required for the town's development.

He said door-to-door garbage collection would begin soon.

The MC had received tenders for the same and after the completion of the process, an NGO would be handed over the job, he said.

On the construction of Town Hall, Mall said a detailed project report was being prepared.

The council was planning to construct it under the PPP mode with a mandatory multi-level parking facility on its premises.

It was decided that 'unwanted' hoardings on Mall Road would soon be removed.

The council would use funds amounting to Rs 64 lakh lakh received from the 13th Finance Commission for buying three vehicles, improving sanitation condition in the town and buying electricity equipment.

Govt tells banks to improve CDR in hill dists

The state government has asked banks to take immediate steps to improve credit-deposit ratio in hilly districts like Pauri and Chamoli. A low credit-deposit ratio indicates banks are not lending much against deposits mobilised.

She asked the banks to sanction maximum loans to women under various welfare schemes launched by the government to empower them economically.

Entrepreneurs in remote villages should also be given all possible financial assistance for the growth of rural industries, she said.

Principal Secretary (Finanace) Rakesh Sharma also advised the committee to sanction loans under the Virchand Garhwali Self Employment Scheme in the tourism sector not just for purchasing vehicles but also for construction of guest houses and resorts in the hill areas so that the maximum number of lodging facilities are available for tourists.

Expressing the hope that the imbalance in credit-deposit ratio will go away gradually, RBI regional MD R L Sharma said it had risen from 53.41 per cent in 2012 to 57.78 per cent in March this year. — PTI
