The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today seized files pertaining to promotions and tenders of the Rail Ministry, details of which have emerged in phone calls intercepted by it in connection with a bribery scandal involving former minister Pawan Bansal's nephew and suspended Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar.

16 hurt in midnight attack by robbers in Kapurthala villages

Unidentified assailants left 16 persons injured in a midnight attack on two families of Mothanwala and Kamalpur Bhatha villages in Kapurthala district today. The assailants took away cash and jewellery from both places.

Decks cleared for medical college admissions

The Supreme Court today allowed medical colleges across the country to admit students for undergraduate and postgraduate courses - MBBS, MD, MS, BDS and MDS -- for the 2013-14 academic year either through the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) or through any other existing means.

Army helicopter crashes at Siachen; pilots evacuated

Two pilots of the Army Aviation Corps had a miraculous escape when a helicopter designed for operations at Siachen glacier crashed in icy conditions at an altitude of about 20,500 feet this morning.

Bhaniarawala, 7 others get three-year jail

A local court today convicted Baba Piara Singh Bhaniarawala and seven of his followers in two cases registered against them in Ropar district on charges of hurting the religious sentiments of a community and awarded them three years imprisonment.

Kashmir teacher’s foot massage photo goes viral

A government schoolteacher was on Monday suspended by the Jammu and Kashmir Education Department after his photograph, showing him relaxing in an office chair with students massaging his legs and feet, went viral on a social networking site.
