SSP rubbishes Cong allegations of liquor distribution
Gurdaspur, May 8 Gill claimed that his force had tightened the noose against liquor smuggling in all seven Assembly seats of the district ahead of the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections. Gurdaspur District Congress president and Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa had all long been claiming that the SAD-BJP leaders were openly distributing liquor amongst the rural masses. Gill, who joined as the new district police chief last week after SK Kalia was divested of additional charge, held a press conference today where he claimed that special nakas had been set up at strategic points across the district where policemen were checking vehicles carrying liquor. He said the policemen would conduct raids on chemist shops selling psychotropic substances. "Vigil is being maintained before the Zila Parishad elections to ensure that drugs do not infiltrate into villages. Special teams have been established to check the nefarious activity," he added. |
