Iron supplement: 21 students fall ill:
As many as 21 students of Government High School, Old Grain Market, were admitted to the Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital following complaints of severe abdomen pain. Sources said students of classes VI to X were given ferrous sulphate tablets under a scheme aimed at meeting iron deficiency among schoolchildren. The tablets were supplied by a Noida-based firm. Senior Medical officer Jagdish Chander Takkar said the students were under observation.

Life term for two in murder case:
A local court has sentenced a resident of Garhshankar and his lover (sister-in-law) to life imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 1 lakh on each of them in a murder case. Sandeep Kumar had murdered his wife Maya alias Anu in connivance with her sister, Harpreet Kaur alias Nano on August 1, 2010. The conviction is based on a conversation (recorded in the mobile phone of the accused) between Sandeep and his sister-in-law after it was scientifically examined.

GNIMT team invited to Turkey fest:
The organisers of the 16th Mediterranean International Youth Festival have requested Punjab Technical University (PTU) to detail their folk dance (bhangra) team for participation in the youth festival that is being held at Akedniz University, Antalya, Turkey, from May 15 to 18. The PTU has earmarked GNIMT's bhangra team to represent the PTU and India in this international youth festival.

Wife among 3 held for killing man:
The district police on Wednesday arrested three persons for allegedly killing Jaswant Singh of Kalyanpur village near Kiratpur Sahib. The accused have been identified as the victim’s wife Kamaljit Kaur, her relative Hardyal Singh and Gian Singh of Kotla village. The deceased’s daughter told the police that her father went missing two months ago. He was last seen with the three accused. Ropar SSP Inder Mohan Singh said following interrogation, the accused confessed they had killed Jaswant by strangulating him.
