Jhajjar, April 4 Bhardwaj was talking to The Tribune after attending a social function in Bahadurgarh town, located on the border of Delhi and Haryana, here on Tuesday evening. He said school students were required to be educated in novel professional and job-oriented courses to make their careers bright in this era of competition. "At present, it is imperative to launch professional courses at the school level to generate employment opportunities for the students in private sector according to their choice besides fulfilling the requirement of corporate houses as well," said the Chairman, adding that the problem of unemployment could be resolved proficiently by imparting professional education to the students at school level. In reply to a question, Bhardwaj said special stress would be placed on checking the menace of unfair means in examinations by plugging the loopholes in the system. "Stern action will be taken against those schools and the employees who are found indulging in encouraging the adoption of unfair means in the exams," said the Chairman, adding that sincere efforts would also be made to strengthen the examination system so as to conduct exams smoothly at all levels. He maintained that a schedule of declaring the exam results of all classes in time would be prepared after going through all aspects of the examination system, wherein dates of commencement of the exams and declaration of results of all classes would be fixed at the time of beginning of the new academic session so as to facilitate the students to carrying out their preparation accordingly. "I had established the same exam and result schedule in Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, while working as Controller of Examination (CoE) and Ch Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, while working as the Vice-Chancellor and succeeded both the times to execute it in a well-organised manner," said Bhardwaj, adding that grievances of the board's employees would also be sorted out on a priority basis so that they could work with more enthusiasm and dedication.

34-member team from PGIMS checks healthcare
Sirsa, April 4 While the 34-odd team comprising of health officers, consultants and external monitors from the PGIMS checked healthcare facilities in the district for a day on April 2 and then Mission Director of the NRHM Rakesh Gupta reviewed the outcome on April 3, the health authorities had to do preparations for the exercise for over one week. The teams inspected one District Hospital (DH), one Subdivisional Hospital (SDH), seven Community Health Centers (CHCs), 18 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Selected Subcentres (SCs) to assess and identify the quantity and quality issues involved in the provision of healthcare in the district. The teams visited the health facilities and submitted a detailed report to Dr Dayanand, Civil Surgeon, Sirsa. The teams monitored all the health programmes as well as did hand holding of the paramedical staff in terms of ante-natal check-ups, institutional deliveries and post partum care. Teams interacted with the community as well to make them aware about the health services provided by the Health Department, Haryana. A meeting was held to discuss the issues identified, which was chaired by Dr Rakesh Gupta, Mission Director, NRHM (National Rural Health Mission), Haryana. Dr J Ganesan, Deputy Commissioner, Sirsa, Dr Pankaj Vats, Director (Family Welfare), Sanjeev Goel, Director Finance & Accounts, Dr Dayanand, Civil Surgeon, Sirsa, State Officers, External Monitors and all health officers from Sirsa district were also present at the meeting. While the teams identified several problem areas and told the health authorities to rectify those before their follow-up exercise, some health officials were honoured for their exemplary work - Dr Manav Sethi (PHC,Ding), Dr Arush Arora (CHC, Madhosinghana), Dr Pankaj Sharma (CHC, Baragura) and Dr Ghanender (PHC, Keharwala). Besides the doctors, some ANMs, who were also felicitated for their good work were - Kamlesh Kumari (Sukhchain), Paramjit Kaur (Baragura), Kanta (Desu Malkana), Gurvinder Kaur (Ganga), Mamta Rani (Jodhka), Virpal Kaur (Harchand Ka Baas), Sunita Devi (Ottu), Lila Wanti Devi (Gondika), Bala Devi (Nehrana), Rekha and Saroj (Ding). Anshu Munjal, District Accounts Manager, and Naresh Kumar, Accounts Assistant, were also rewarded for their efforts. Talking to mediapersons, Dr Rakesh Gupta said the exercise had been planned for the entire state of Haryana in a phased manner -- Sirsa is the fourth district after Panipat, Mewat and Bhiwani -- to ensure that all health facilities and services provided by the Health Department, Haryana, were being utilised by the community.

Seminar: Call to treat women as equals
Karnal, April 4 The seminar, sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), was organised by the Budha College of Education. More than 150 dignitaries and delegates from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Orissa and West Bengal attended the seminar. As many as 135 papers were received out of which 105 were accepted. Inaugurating the seminar, Dr DDS Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor, Kurukshetra University, said education alone could not improve the situation. The time had come when we need to galvanise the process of change in the mindset. “Treat women as equal” should be the mantra. In his keynote address, former Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, Prof RR Singh, remarked that ‘Sashakt Nari Sashakt Samaj’ will hold true in real and absolute terms only when society gets rid of crime against women. The-deep rooted social discrimination because of a patriarchal society, in spite of the judicial system, is something of grave concern and good governance was imperative to root out gender discrimination. Prof Sushma Jairath, retired professor from the Department of Women Studies, NCERT, New Delhi, emphasised that empowerment was the power within and time was ripe for bringing the desired change.

Ambala, April 4 The secretary of the brigade, Virrender Dixit, in the legal notice, alleged that Ramdev's remarks had caused injury to the reputation of Sonia Gandhi and the false Ram Dev was asked to explain the position with regard to the notice, failing which legal action would be pursued in the court.

Sonepat, April 4 The Support My School Campaign that has been revitalising rural and semi-urban schools with facilities such as sanitation for boys and girls and access to clean water, focuses on providing sport facilities to these schools to promote physical education among students. With this visit, the students got an opportunity to play cricket and interact with Jadeja. The students got batting and bowling tips from the former cricket star. The visit was an endeavuor towards familiarising the trainees with the work, being done under campaign. Speaking to the students, Ajay Jadeja said, “Sports are an integral part of your growth. They help in building team spirit, leadership qualities and truly aid one’s personal development to face bigger challenges in life.” These basic sports facilities would help the children in inculcating a love for sports and open new opportunities for them, he added. Sameer Pathak, senior manager, public affairs and communication, Coca-Cola India and South West Asia, said, “ The campaign is an initiative to create a holistic learning environment for students in rural and semi-urban schools."

Kurukshetra NIT team wins concrete quiz
Kurukshetra, April 4 Claiming this here recently, Dr PJ Philip, in charge, NIT Public Relations, said the first round of the quiz competition attracted over 100 teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh as well as Chandigarh. The top six teams were selected for the second round. Among the six teams, two were from the NIT, Kurukshetra. The team of Ankit and Chaitnya came first after a stiff competition in the second round. Prof DK Soni, Head of NIT Civil Engineering Department, Dr Yogesh Aggarwal, Head of Indian Concrete Institute (student chapter), and Dr Pratibha Aggarwal of Civil Engineering Department contributed in preparing the team. Prof Anand Mohan, Director, NIT, Kurukshetra, congratulated the department and the winning team for the achievement.

Hall dedicated to martyr Madan Lal Dhingra
Kurukshetra, April 4 Sunil Sachdeva co-founder and director, Vedanta Hospital, Gurgaon, presided over the function. Jwahar Luthra, director, Devine City, and Kailash Bhagat, an industrialist of Kaithal, were guest of honour on the occasion. Welcoming the chief guest, the samiti president and local MLA Ashok Arora said the dharamshala was a gift from the INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala to people because the land for the dharamshala was allotted to the samiti on cheaper rates by the INLD supremo during his regime. There are 50 rooms in the dharamshala with modern facilities. Speaking on the occasion, Abhey Chautala said by constructing the a dharamshala in the name of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra, Arora had paid real tributes to the martyrs. He said the martyrs did not belong to one community or caste but were heritage of the nation. Earlier, Abhey Chautala also addressed state-level workers sammelan of the backward classes on the premises of the Saini Samaj Bhwan here. While addressing the sammelan, Chautala said the Congress would face defeat in the impending elections. He alleged that the Congress, with the help of the CBI, had jailed the INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala by hatching a conspiracy against him.

Kurukshetra, April 4 Ms Garima Sablok, HR Manager, Clear Path Technology Pvt Ltd. started the recruitment process with an online aptitude and technical test, which was followed by group discussions. The shortlisted students then went through personal interviews and at the end of the day, 17 students got placed. The company had offered a pay package of up to Rs 2 lakh to the selected candidates besides providing ample opportunities for their future growth. Rewari players excel in taekwondo
Rewari, April 4 Three athletes -- Deepak Dalal, Prithvi Raj Yadav and Prince Yadav, all three students of Class X of Pathfinder Global School, Malesyawas in the Kosli subdivision of Rewari district — who participated in the competitions, have come out with Thus while Prithvi Raj bagged a gold medal in the sub-junior category, silver medals were won by both Deepak and Prince in the junior and sub-junior level contests respectively. Prince Yadav had also won a silver medal in the International Taekwondo Championship held earlier at Phuket in Thailand.

Wheat procurement begins sans arrangements
Jind, April 4 The total procurement of wheat in about 24 procurement centres in the district last year that had been around 7.50 lakh metric tonnes (MT) is expected to rise by at least 10 per cent this season due to a bumper crop this time. “The two main sheds in the main mandi at Jind have no light and toilets were lying locked. These arrangements were expected to have been carried out before the procurement that begin officially from April 1,” said Balraj Singh, a farmer hailing from Mirchpur village, who had come here in connection with the procurement of cotton crop, which was still on. He said garbage was lying all around. Without lighting arrangements farmers were facing problems in selling their crop after 6pm, which is resulting in an unusual delay. “We have to depend on agents to have basic amenities like drinking water and toilets as these facilities were yet to be started,” claimed Mauji Ram of Anoopgarh village. Pawan Chopra, secretary of the grain market, though admitted that there were some issues regarding the power supply. He, however, claimed that all arrangements were nearly over and the wheat arrival was not expected before April 8 due to delay in ripening of the crop this season.

College girls make rangoli on female foeticide
Kurukshetra, April 4 The girls made rangoli on female foeticide, national bird, peacock, Lord Ganesha, etc while a few students, including boys, made rangoli on physics and chemistry with new and unique ideas. Posters were also made with slogans written on violence against women and environment protection. While addressing the students, the chief guest, Dr Parveen Verma, Principal, SMS Khalsa Labana College, Barara, Ambala district, called upon the girls to remove the word “impossible” and “inequality” from their dictionary because "women can do every thing that men do.” She citied the example of Kalpna Chawla, Sunita Williams, Indira Gandhi, Prathiba Devi Patil, Meira Kumar, Sushma Swaraj and Kiran Bedi, etc. The college Principal, Dr Vinay Malhotra, dwelled on the achievements of Verma at this young age. He also presented a report of Women Cell activities of the college. Kalpna, in charge of Women Cell, conducted the programme well and supervised various competitions. NGO launches awareness drive on N-energy in Sirsa
Sirsa, April 4 During her drive, Dr Goyal, who is better known as “Bharat Ki Parmanu Saheli,” will address seminars in educational institutes of Sirsa. Speaking to mediapersons here yesterday, Dr Goyal said after the completion of the month-long drive, she would organise a “Parmanu Urja Mahautsava” in the first week of May. The drive is directed at dispelling misgivings about the dangers of nuclear power plants in view of a 2800-MW nuclear power project coming up at Gorakhpur in the neighbouring Fatehabad district. “Since, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is coming up with an atomic power plant at Gorakhpur in Fatehabad, I decided to launch an awareness drive in the districts close to the proposed unit. After Sirsa, I plan to shift my focus on Fatehabad district,” she said talking to The Tribune. “The APEAF has in place a public awareness programme focused on reaching out to the public and placing the facts about atomic energy in a correct perspective, in a transparent and comprehensive manner,” Dr Goyal said about her foundation. She said these awareness programmes had a multi-pronged approach aimed at providing scientifically accurate information and real world knowledge in the context of nuclear power plants. She said the main emphasis of her awareness drive was to make people feel that the nuclear energy was clean and safe and the country needed it for its development. She said she had already completed her awareness drive in Hisar and Bhiwani and after Sirsa. A former university teacher from Jaipur, Dr Goyal started her NGO, APEAF, after the Fukushima nuclear disaster led to a lot of negative publicity about the nuclear power plants throughout the country.

Wasteland project to help conserve water
Chandigarh, April 4 In the first phase, three blocks in each of the districts of Kaithal, Mewat, Bhiwani and Jhajjar have been identified for the implementation of the mission. The Initial Annual Action Plan has been An outlay of Rs 15 crore has been proposed for ‘Aajeevika’ with 25 per cent as state share for Annual Plan 2013-2014. The Watershed Projects were being implemented under the Desert Development Programme (DDP) and Integrated Wasteland Development Project (IWDP), he added. The objective of these schemes is to control severity of drought and desert conditions in the identified districts through watershed development approach. In 2008, these two schemes were merged into a new scheme called, Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP). The objective of the IWMP is to conserve water, recharge water table, and create livelihood Under this scheme, 47 projects costing Rs 215.44 crore for covering an area of 17,9531 hectares were sanctioned for seven districts, namely, Ambala, Bhiwani, Hisar, Mohindergarh, Rewari, Panchkula and Yamunanagar. An outlay of Rs 13 crore has been proposed as 10 per cent state share for the Annual Plan, he added.

Ekta adjudged best player in athletics meet
Sirsa, April 4 Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Abhey Singh Chautala was the chief guest at the meet and honoured the winning athletes. The function began with a march past by the participants. Addressing students, Chautala said some years ago, girls from Odhan and neighbouring areas had to wait for buses for long hours to reach Sirsa, Dabwali or towns of Punjab to further their studies. However, ever since Mata Harki Devi College for Women had come into existence, it had proved a boon for the local girls. Welcoming Chautala and other guests, the college Principal, Shamim Sharma, said the college had not only been providing quality education to the girls, it had also been training them in car driving, photography, beauty culture and martial art. She said academics, cultural activities and sports were three important parts of education and the Mata Harki Devi College for Women was taking care of all these. Hardayal Singh Gadrana, Chairman of the college management trust, presided over the function. In the three-legged race, Ekta and Tammana remained first while teams comprising Lakhbir and Amandeep and Santosh and Aarti were adjudged second and third respectively. In the brick race, Monu was adjudged first, Jyoti remained second and Kavita got the third position. In the 100-metre race, Suman, Ekta and Puja got the first three positions respectively. Ekta won a gold medal in the discuss-throw competition. Ekta won gold for high-jump event while Sanju and Rajbir received second and third positions, respectively.

Cell to enhance people’s faith in Police Dept
Sirsa, April 4 The Inspector-General of Police, Hisar Range, Shatrujeet Kapur, said the cell would enhance faith of the people in the Police Department. In the cell, all complaints registered in various police stations of the district or on women helpline number 1091 or on No.100 of control room would be considered. He said that beat system would be implemented in all police stations of the district to check crime and initially it would be started in the police station of Sirsa city. He said a committee would be constituted after dividing the entire city into various beats for gathering information. The common people would also be made its members. It would prove very beneficial, he added. Kapur said the aim of companies being trained on the pattern of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) in every district of Hisar range, was to maintain law and order during any emergency. He said women helpline, women PCR and women cell had already been set up and were functioning properly. He said the number of police personnel in traffic police would be increased. He said that youth would be included in the Road Safety Organisation (RSO) and their participation would also be ensured. The members of RSO would also discharge their duty along with the traffic police which would strengthen traffic arrangements and also facilitate common people.

NGO holds workshop for youth
Karnal, April 4 Addressing over 500 participants from different streams of engineering, Mihir Banerjee, the force behind Saarthi, exhorted students to shun violent approach, resentment and shortcuts and empower themselves with positive energy and attitude, vision and values. He said youngsters need to be trained in such a way so that they could survive in this highly competitive environment and it was possible only if the requirements of the corporate sector were identified and institutes prepare a skilled workforce. Mihir said there was no dearth of jobs for the right candidates.
