The body of Bharat Bhushan Sharma was found in the park at 6.30 am today. He is a resident of Dilshad Garden. A morning walker saw his body and informed the police.

There were reportedly injury marks on his face.

The police has registered a murder case at the Seemapuri police station, but is also probing the matter from the angle of accidental death. Cops suspect Bharat may have fallen to the concrete floor. Traces of alcohol have been found in his body, which indicate that he was drunk during the incident. The police is awaiting his postmortem report to ascertain the cause of his death.

According to the police, Bharat stayed with his parents, Madan Lal Sharma and Shakuntala, at Dilshad Garden. They told the police that he had left home at 7 pm on Sunday and did not return the entire night.

Bharat was presently unemployed, after working in different companies in Haryana, according to the police.

The police is questioning people who were with Bharat on Sunday night. It found a wooden stick lying near his body, which had blood on it.

LG’s speech disappointing, says Malhotra
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 18
Leader of the Opposition V.K. Malhotra today condemned Lieutenant Governor (LG) Tejendra Khanna's speech for not mentioning a word about the status of law and order prevailing in the city.

Malhotra was addressing the House meeting of Delhi Assembly as a motion of thanks to LG's speech which he delivered on the first day of the Budget session. Terming it "disappointing" and "baseless", he criticized him for not offering any condolences in regard to the December 16 gangrape case.

He called the Delhi government the most corrupt of all the state governments. "The incident shook the whole nation and it did not even find any mention in the LG' address. Not even a single word was said about the law and order situation that does not exist in the national Capital," said Malhotra.

Giving statistics, he said that four rapes are reported in the city every day, one woman is molested in every two hours and 96 per cent of women feel unsafe in the city.

Malhotra took upon the controversial statement given by Chief Minister Sheila Dikhsit that "her own daughter does not feel safe in the city" and said that it has spoiled Delhi's image country wide. "Should not the Chief Minister give resignation if she feels that even her daughter is not safe on Delhi roads," said Malhotra.

He also came hard on Dikshit's efforts to bring the Delhi police under her control as he claimed that there has been no such attempt by the government. "It was said by the Home Minister that if the Chief Minister had asked me in writing about the control of the Delhi police, I would have immediately transferred it to the state government. That means the Chief Minister is trying to fool the people of Delhi," he added.

However, reacting to Malhotra's statement calling her corrupt, Dikhsit strongly objected, saying that personal remarks should not be allowed in the House. "Please do not say things which are completely wrong. This is not the forum to discuss matters related to people who are not the members of the assembly like the Home Minister. No one is corrupt here and you cannot level allegations like that," said the Chief Minister.

VHP objects to IP admission forms
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 18
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has landed in fresh controversy with the right-wing groups. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and other rightist groups have objected to the fact that the 'Hindu' category was not included in the admission forms under the religion slot.

However, the administration maintains that the purpose of shifting the Hindu religion under the 'Others' category was to facilitate options for other communities and religions which would aid in easy categorization of quota seats.

The form in question is an online admission application to IP University. The VHP and other groups today also visited the university campus where a scuffle broke out between them.

However to simmer down the 'unnecessary' issue, the Controller of Examinations today issued a circular on the university website, mentioning that the "Religion Data is only required for the admissions to Religious Minority Institute's quota seats, as applicable."

A senior university official said on the condition of anonymity, "This was no intension to ignore any community or religion. The specification sought under the 'religion' criteria was purely for official purpose to facilitate quotas. Agitation on such an issue at the time of admissions is not fair. Anyhow the university has issued a notification."

Media coordinator for VHP, Vinod Bansal said, "A couple of delegates were injured in the scuffle today. A police complaint was also lodged for injuries to the women delegates."

Water supply irregular in our areas: BJP MLAs
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 18
The opposition BJP gunned for the ruling Congress in the House meeting of Delhi Assembly today for not supplying water to the areas of its party legislators.

A heated debate ensued when BJP Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) raised the matter that the residents of their areas have not been getting water supply from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) for the past many years.

Two BJP MLAs, Sat Prakash Rana from Mahipalpur and Dharam Dev Solanki from Palam Vihar, trooped into the well of the House, demanding a reply from the Chief Minister on the matter. While Solanki said that there has been a scarcity of water in his area for the past nine years, Rana claimed that the residents of his constituency have been getting irregular supply for the past four years regarding which he has written numerous letters to the Chief Minister.

"We want assurance from the CM that the matter will be resolved in a timebound manner," said Rana.

Speaker Yoganand Shashtri tried to pacify the MLAs and appealed to them to take time from the Chief Minister and meet her in the office, but the MLAs continued shouting and maintained that the CM should make a statement in the House.

"What is the purpose of the House if the ruling party shirks its responsibility," asked Rana.

Reacting to the behaviour of the agitated MLAs, Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely and Public Development Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan urged the Speaker to take action against them.

"When the CM had given assurance that the matter would be discussed separately towards the end of the session, members should not behave indecently. Action should be taken against them," said Lovely.
