Lawyers go on 3-day strike
Tarn Taran, January 28
Members of the District Bar Association went on a three-day strike against not building chambers for them at the under-construction Judicial Court Complex here today. The Bar members, led by Baldev Singh Gill, president of the association, stopped the construction work at the site and declared to lodge protest till the acceptance of their demand.

Man held with 260 gm heroin
Tarn Taran, January 28
The police recovered 260 gm of heroin, worth Rs 1.55 crore in the international market, from Heera Singh, a resident of the Muradpur locality, late last evening. The police said a case under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against Heera Singh. — OC

Man commits suicide
Phagwara, January 28
A middle-aged man, Raj Kumar, committed suicide by consuming poison at his house in the Mehli Gate locality here last evening. The police said depression, caused by prolonged illness, was said to be the reason for committing suicide. — OC

Lawyers go on 3-day strike

Tarn Taran, January 28
Members of the District Bar Association went on a three-day strike against not building chambers for them at the under-construction Judicial Court Complex here today. The Bar members, led by Baldev Singh Gill, president of the association, stopped the construction work at the site and declared to lodge protest till the acceptance of their demand.

The four-storey court complex is being constructed at a cost of Rs 44.15 crore. The foundation stone was laid on September 30, 201,1 and the building is to be completed within 24 months. The work is in full swing these days.

The Bar members went to the construction site at Piddi village, 6 km from here, and organised a rally there. They declared that they would not allow the construction work of the complex to go on till the acceptance of their demand of chambers for them. The Bar members were given assurance by Harmesh Singh Pabla , Deputy Commissioner, that the matter would be brought to the notice of the state Government. The Bar members decided to allow the construction work, but their strike call would continue.
