Health staff go on 4-day strike
Ludhiana, January 28
No birth and death certificates could be issued to people today at the Civil Surgeon's office here as the clerical staff went on a four-day strike today on a call given by the Punjab Health Department Subordinate Offices Clerical Association. Visitors, who were not aware of the strike, were at the receiving end and had to go back without their documents.

Woman, son killed, three injured in road accident

A middle-aged woman and her son were killed while her husband and younger son were critically injured in a fatal road accident near Sidhwan Bet on the Jagraon-Nakodar road today.

BJP leader's father dies of gunshot
Ludhiana, January 28
Manjeet Singh (65), father of BJP leader Nirbhay Singh, of Sahnewal, died after sustaining a bullet injury on his lungs under mysterious circumstances at his house near Railway Road in Sahnewal here today.

Man commits suicide
Ludhiana, January 28
The Jodhewal Basti police has booked the wife and two "girlfriends" of a 32-year-old man, who committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Shakti Nagar in Basti Jodhewal here today.
