Over 1,600 Shiv Sena activists were today arrested ahead of the release of Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘My Name ks Khan’ (MNIK) as the Maharashtra government beefed up security enabling theatre owners to re-open advance bookings.

The BSF has identified a jawan as ‘possibly involved’ in the unprovoked firing that resulted in the killing of teenager Zahid Farooq Sheikh of the Nishat area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Friday last. The killing led to protests and a complete shutdown across the valley while normal life was restored after eight days yesterday.

In a new twist to the troubled saga of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Andhra Pradesh Government today asked Deccan Chargers, the local team and defending champions, not to play in the forthcoming IPL matches if the opening ceremony and other matches are moved out of Hyderabad.
