The United Liberation Front of Asom has rejected offers for peace talks by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to end a quarter century of insurgency in the region. The outlawed group said the Prime Minister’s offer was not unconditional and does not have any mention about discussing their core issue of ‘sovereignty’.

Amid classic army tunes in the backdrop and glitters that sprinkled from the skies by a trio of choppers, the historic Chetwode stadium of the Indian Military Academy saw a batch of 440 gentleman cadets pass out to find their respective roles in the Army.

11 killed in Quetta blast
Islamabad, December 10
At least 11 persons, including a soldier, were killed and 25 injured when a powerful bomb exploded near an army vehicle in a busy market area in Pakistan’s southwest city of Quetta today.

Women found murdered in hotel
Chandigarh, December 10
A woman in her mid-30s was murdered in Hotel Shivalikview here this evening. “The body of the woman was found in the bath tub of room No. 402 of the hotel,” DSP (Central) S.C. Sagar said. A trouser, a bra and a black coat were found in a cupboard of the room. 

Seer’s judicial remand extended till December 23

The judicial remand of the Kanchi Shankaracharya in the Sankararaman murder case was today extended till December 23 by the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate.

Anil Kumble Kumble breaks Kapil’s record

Ace leg-spinner Anil Kumble today surpassed Kapil Dev’s decade-old record of 434 wickets to become the highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. The 34-year-old Kumble achieved the feat when he had Muhammad Rafique trapped leg before on the opening day of the first cricket Test against Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu Stadium here.
