Gurmat Chetna march: traffic control goes haywire in Ludhiana

Traffic in Ludhiana is always termed to be bad, but today it was the worst. Till late in the afternoon the vehicular traffic in the city remained disturbed as the Gurmat Chetna march which had come from Varanasi and Hazoor Sahib to mark the 400 years of the Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib passed through various parts of the city.

Sodhi family asked to hand over Kartarpuri Bir to SGPC

Shimla to celebrate 400th anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib

A two-day function will be organised at The Ridge on September 11 and 12 to mark the 400th anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib. The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Mr Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister, here today. Celebrations will also be held at the local gurdwara by the Singh Sabha on September 1.

Gurmat chetna march begins
Lucknow, August 25
The contribution of three saint-poets of Kashi — Sant Kabir, Sant Ravi Das and Sant Ramanand — is being recognised on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of prakash parv by taking out a Gurmat chetna march dedicated to the vani of these poets, which commenced at Kashi today. The Akal Takht chief, Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti, is leading the march which is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow and reach Amritsar on September 1.

All offices of the Punjab Government, its boards and corporations, in Chandigarh will remain closed in the post-lunch session tomorrow, according to a government spokesman. The half-day holiday has been declared to enable employees to participate in a religious procession.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today expressed dissatisfaction over the arrangements made so far by the district administration in connection with the quadricentennial celebrations of the installation of Guru Granth Sahib, proposed to be started from Sept 1.

The biggest ‘paalki’ weighing 10 quintals has been completed at Gurdwara Ramsar where Guru Granth Sahib will be placed to mark the quadricentennial celebrations of the holy book.

Even as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee was still awaiting the official nod from Rashtrapati Bhavan and the Prime Minister’s Office on their participation in the quadri-centennial celebrations of the installation of Guru Granth Sahib, the SAD supremo, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, said he was hopeful that Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Dr Manmohan Singh would attend the concluding function on September 1.

The Thai Sikh community stands divided over the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of Guru Granth Sahib. Though the preparations for celebrations, arranged at the behest of Akal Takht and SGPC, had already been completed at “Sardar House”, the local Singh Sabha Gurdwara Committee has chalked out “parallel functions”, which would begin on September 1.
