Militants kill 4 cops in Kathua ambush

Four police personnel were killed by a heavily armed group of terrorists near the Kindli post of the special operation group (SOG) in Kathua district today.

The place where the terrorists ambushed the police party is in the Dudu-Basantgarh area near the Himachal Pradesh border. It is two hours’ trek to the spot from the road head.

The Superintendent of Police Kathua district, Mr Raghubir Singh Manhas, told The Tribune over the telephone that a group of about 12 terrorists ambushed the police personnel at 5 am.

The victims have been identified as SOG personnel, Firdous, Suraj Prakash and Rafiq and special police officer, Ramesh. The SP said the troops and CRPF had been rushed to the area.

The DIG (Jammu-Kathua range), Mr Khan, has flown to the spot. Mr Manhas also rushed to the area with police reinforcement.

Srinagar (PTI): Suspected militants today set ablaze a house after locking the inmates inside in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing a person, a police spokesman said.

A group of militants locked the house of one Mohammad Sadiq at Mughal Morah in Bafliaz sector of Poonch district in the wee hours and set the building on fire, the spokesman added.

Sadiq somehow managed to bring his family members, including wife and two children, out of the flames but was himself burnt to death, he said.

In another incident, the spokesman said ultras intercepted a vehicle carrying the students of army goodwill school at Khandoora-Badoora in Akingam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir today and hijacked the vehicle after asking the passengers to disembark, he said.

Two militants were killed while the security forces averted a tragedy in the Kashmir Valley overnight, official spoksman said on Friday.

He said militants shot at and critically wounded a former ultra of Hizbul Mujahideen, Khursheed Ahmad, at Eidgah here last night. He was shifted to hospital where he died this morning.

The security forces shot dead a militant at Nihalpora Pattan in Baramula district during a search operation today.

The security forces, during a route patrol, detected and defused two live UBGL near a school at Nadihal.
