Tribune News Service

Chennai, December 10
The judicial remand of the Kanchi Shankaracharya in the Sankararaman murder case was today extended till December 23 by the Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate.

The Chennai Principal Sessions Judge, too, rejected the bail petition filed by the seer’s counsel in connection with the Radhakrishnan assault case.

The Kancheepuram Judicial Magistrate today went to Chengulpet, a small town 30 km away from Kancheepuram, and conducted the court proceedings through video-conferencing.

The Shankaracharya remained in the Vellore Central Prison as the police did not want him to undertake such long journeys keeping in mind his age and his health conditions as he is diabetic.

Today, the seer completed one month in custody as he was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police from Mehboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh on November 11 on charges of killing Sankararaman, manager of the Vardarajan Perumal temple in Kancheepuram.

PTI adds: Raghu, brother of Vijayendra Saraswathi, the junior Sankaracharya of Kanchi mutt, appeared before the special police team investigating the Shankaraman murder case, late this evening. Raghu along with Vaidyanathan, a lawyer and an aide of the Junior Acharya, visited the office of the investigating team around 7 pm. The mutt’s lawyer, Shanmugham, also accompanied them.
