Tribune News Service

Jammu, December 10
Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed today ordered the Home Department to get the tourist infrastructure and schools vacated that were being occupied by the security forces while fighting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mr Sayeed, who was here to review the functioning of the police department, asked the Home Department to get such places vacated from the security forces before the next tourist season.

He discussed the situation arising out of the continued occupation of hotels and educational institutions by the security forces.

The Chief Minister ordered for immediate vacancy of the hotels on the Boulevar at Srinagar so that these could be renovated in time.

He asked the police department to workout a comprehensive plan for the construction of alternate accommodation for the security forces as the government was paying an annual rent of Rs 16 crore for the private accommodation hired for the paramilitary forces.

He directed the deputy commissioner to identify suitable lands in their respective areas for the purpose.

He ordered that the Nageen Club and the hostel of the college at Anantnag should immediately be vacated.

As many as 48 hotels and Commercial establishments in the Kashmir valley are presently occupied by the security forces.
