CM trying to grab Sir Chhotu Ram’s
legacy: Birender Chandigarh, October 21 In a statement issued here today, Mr Birender Singh
described Mr Chautala’s personal attack on him as “a desperate
attempt by the INLD leader to grab the legacy of Sir Chhotu Ram for his
evil political motives.” He said Mr Chautala had so far been
undeservingly basking in the glory of his father and in order to cover
up his deficiencies had now suddenly decided to grab the political
legacy of Sir Chhotu Ram. He said while no one could match the heritage
of the legendary peasant leader, he (Mr Birender Singh) would continue
spreading the philosophy of the great leader to ameliorate the lot of
the poor farmers and unemployed youth. Claiming that while he set the
agenda and Mr Chautala followed it, Mr Birender Singh said he had first
unfolded the agenda for the youth at the Yuva Adhikar rally in Rohtak
last month. Now Mr Chautala had made a poor attempt to copy his agenda
with a view to misleading the youth. He said if Mr Chautala was really
concerned about the youth, he should have implemented the schemes
announced by him at the Rohtak rally yesterday, four years ago.
Describing Mr Chautala as an “opportunist and anti-youth and
anti-farmer leader”, Mr Birender Singh termed the Chief Minister’s
allegations that it was he (Mr Birender Singh) who had revoked Mr Devi
Lal’s loan waiver schemes as “a total lie”. Mr Birender Singh said
it was he who as the Cooperation Minister got the Punjab Cooperative
Societies Act, 1984, amended to incorporate a new section on limitation
of interest in the Haryana Cooperative Societies Act. |

Varsity students left in the lurch
Sirsa, October 21 At present the posts of both the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar are lying vacant following their unceremonious ‘exit’ from the university. Due to this delay in making the new appointments, an atmosphere of confusion and chaos is prevailing in the university. The project of developing a university was initiated by the present Chautala government after much fanfare but now it seems to be last on its priority list. At present, the Chief Secretary is the officiating Vice-Chancellor while Prof S. Kundu is holding charge of Registrar till further orders. But the authorities have not given any reason for the “removal’’ of both the officials and further delay in appointing the new officials. Among the most `scared’ are the science students whose academic future is at stake. Over four months have passed and the university is yet to provide laboratories for practical works. Both the students and the faculty members are worried a lot due to all these reasons. “It is highly surprising that the government allowed the CDLU to commence various science post graduate course without providing the basic infrastructure. Admissions should not have been made for course, including chemistry, physics and food technology’’, says a faculty member. Though the university had decided to convert certain classrooms on the first floor into labs, has just started the construction work for it and that too has been stalled due to unknown reasons. Students complain of poor and highly unprofessional academic environment on the campus as they are “forced’’ to perform practicals either “verbally” or on blackboards. Students, seeking an end to the deadlock over appointment and labs issue, said “We are worried a lot if the university would continue as the state assembly election are approaching and the state government will obviously have elections as its priority.’’ |
