Asia’s first Astro-turf in rural area

Steel industry faces raw material shortage

The seizure of explosives from containers used for importing scrap has caused inordinate delay in the clearance of scrap by the Customs Authority, said the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings in a press note here today.

Agricultural technocrats threaten stir
Ludhiana, October 14
Agricultural technocrats in the state have threatened to launch a statewide agitation in case their demands were not met. A meeting of the state committee of the Plant Doctors Services Association, Punjab, was held here today with Dr R.P.S. Aulakh, president of the association, in the chair. Dr Satnam Singh, Dr Sushil Kumar Attri, Dr Mukhtiar Singh Bhullar and Dr Atma Singh Sidhu, chairman secretary, joint secretary and finance secretary, respectively, of the unit, attended the meeting.

Ramlila inaugurated
Ludhiana, October 14
Urban Estate Ramlila Dussehra Committee president Raj Garg and general secretary Dr Shiv Gupta stated in a press note that Ramlila, started in Urban Estate Dugri, Sabzimandi Ground here yesterday was inaugurated by an NRI, Mr Lembar Singh Johal (UK), and Mr Munish Singla of the Darshan Industrial Corporation lit the lamp (Shama-e-Roshan). About 2,000 persons enjoyed the Ramlila on the first day.

Three bodies found in city
Ludhiana, October 14
Three bodies were recovered from different places in the city in the past 24 hours. Two of these were found from the Model Town area while the third was recovered from near Railway tracks, Jassian.

2 arrested with poppy husk
Khanna, October 14
The Khanna police arrested two persons on the charge of possessing poppy husk last night. According to the police, special nakas were laid to check anti-social elements.

Scientific exchange between India, Pak stressed
Ludhiana, October 14
An invitation has been extended to Janab Pravez Ellahi, Chief Minister of Pakistani Punjab, to visit the PAU also while coming to Punjab to attend the World Punjabi Conference. Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh said on his visit to the PAU, a special seminar on the future agriculture would be organised and Janab Pravez Illahi would preside over one of the sessions of the seminar.

Maths seminar concludes

“Seminars and inservice training motivate government teachers to work hard so as to come up to the expectations of at least developments in the field of education. Teachers must polish their students with the latest knowledge of the education,” said Ms Ushal Sidhu, Principal, Government Inservice Training Centre (GITC), on the concluding day of the seminar of mathematics and art and craft teachers here yesterday.

PCTE team first in Pak fest

The PCTE team has bagged the overall first position in Dhoom-2004, a cultural festival held at the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology, (SZABIST) Islamabad, on October 11. A team comprising three faculty members and 21 students (16 boys and 5 girls) of Punjab College of Technical Education, Ludhiana, competed in the six cultural events.

72-year-old man jailed under NDPS Act
Ludhiana, October 14
The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr Inderjit Kaushik, has sentenced Balbir Singh (72) of Pakhowal village to one-year imprisonment for possessing poppy husk. A find of Rs 2,000 was also imposed upon him.

Sargam wins bronze in shooting
Ludhiana, October 14
It was a proud moment for Sargam Marwaha, student of local Kundan Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, when she received a medal from lone Indian medal winner in the Athens Olympics and ace shooter Major Rajvardhan Rathore during the eighth All-India Inter-School Shooting Championship held from September 29 to October 4 at Indore. Sargam, student of class IX, bagged a bronze medal in this championship. Sargam added this medal to her kitty after emerging victorious in the district as well as in the Punjab State Championship held recently.
