Replace 40K meters, UT told
Chandigarh, November 13
The Joint Electricity Regularity Commission (JERC) has directed the UT Electricity Department to replace 40,000 non-functional and mechanical meters before March 2015. During a hearing of the petition regarding replacement of defective meters before the JERC, the commission directed the department to submit a status report after March 2015 on defective meters.

Victim’s mother to be quizzed: SSP
Mohali, November 13
Reiterating her allegations against her Australia-based estranged husband Varinderpal Singh, Mehram’s mother Harinder Kaur today claimed that her husband did not want Mehram to be born. “He wanted me to go in for an abortion,” alleged Harinder Kaur at Gurdwara Amb Sahib today, where the “akhand path” was organised by the gurdwara management in memory of six-year-old Mehram, whose highly decomposed body was recovered from a dumping yard in Sector 69 on November 7.

Panjwar Sec 34 blast mastermind: Terrorist

Arrested for his alleged involvement in the bomb blast in Sector 34 in July 1999, dreaded terrorist Rattandeep Singh today expressed his willingness to get his statements recorded before the magistrate wherein he confessed that Paramjit Panjwar, head of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), was the mastermind behind the blast 15 years ago and was at present actively involved in smuggling drugs into Punjab.

5 policemen found absent, suspended

Artificial limbs, hearing aid distributed

Union Home Minister seeks reply from UT Administration
Chandigarh, November 13
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has sought a reply from the Chandigarh Administration regarding the long-pending issues of the UT. The orders come after MP Kirron Kher and BJP president Sanjay Tandon separately met the Union Home Minister in Delhi over the issues related to the problems of residents of Chandigarh.

Two injured as stove explodes in market
Chandigarh, November 13
Two youths sustained burn injuries after a gas stove exploded in the crowded market area of Sector 22 here this afternoon. No casualties were reported in the incident.

480 ITBP recruits pass out
Chandigarh, November 13
As many as 480 recruits were inducted as constables (general duty) into the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on the completion of preliminary training at the force’s Basic Training Centre (BTC) at Bhanu near here today.

Decks cleared for construction of flyover at Dera Bassi

Decks have been cleared for the construction of a flyover on the busy Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway-22 at Dera Bassi with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) allotting the work to a Hisar-based construction company.

Firm, dealer to pay for vehicle’s defective part
Panchkula, November 13
The local consumer court today directed a company to pay the cost of a new rim to a Panchkula resident for his new scooter. The dealer - Autonation Private Limited - of Industrial Area, Phase II, Panchkula, and the factory office in Gurgaon has been directed to pay an amount of Rs 478 as the cost of new rim and Rs 5,000 as mental agony charges.

False Application
Applicant told to pay litigation cost
Mohali, November 13
For moving a false application, the Permanent Lok Adalat today directed an applicant to pay Rs 25,000 to respondents as litigation cost. The court directed Nirmal Singh, who claimed to be the president of the Gurunanak Khokha Market, Phase 1, here.

Reliance Web World penalised
Panchkula, November 13
The local consumer court today directed Reliance Web World, Sector 11, and Ambika Enterprises in Sector 11, to either activate a Reliance 3G (iPhone R3G) voucher or refund Rs 20,850 along with an interest of 9 per cent per annum. They have also been told to pay Rs 15,000 for mental agony charges and cost of litigation to complainant.

Habitual thief sentenced
Chandigarh, November 13
In yet another order on habitual offenders, a local court today awarded two year jail term to a Sector 41 resident who was a habitual thief. The convict had been identified as Baldev Singh resident of Sector 41-D, Chandigarh, who has already been convicted in 11 other cases.

Man acquitted in rape case in Mohali
Mohali, November 13
In the absence of proper evidence, the Mohali court today acquitted a person in a six-month-old rape case, here, today. It acquitted Gurpreet Singh against whom charges of rape and blackmailing were slapped by a married woman of Mote Majra village.

Mutilated body of youth found in Panchkula
Panchkula, November 13
A mutilated body of a 28-year-old youth was found in the vicinity of the Chandimandir police station in Sector 23, this morning. The arms of the victim, identified as Vimal Kumar, were missing while a part of the face was not only damaged but eaten up by wild animals.

2 snatching incidents reported
Chandigarh, November 13
Two snatching incidents were reported in the city. Both women lost their purses containing mobile phones, cash and other documents. The police said Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Sector 68, Mohali, alleged that occupant of a motorcycle sped away after snatching her purse containing two mobile phones and documents from Small Chowk of Sector 50/51.

2 more held for demanding ransom

In a case of threatening a local businessman for Rs 25 lakh ransom, the Mohali Police have arrested two more accused here today. The accused have been identified as Ravi Kumar and Sukhraj, both residents of Chandigarh.

CTU driver misbehaves with woman

High drama was witnessed outside the PGI gate today after a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) driver allegedly misbehaved and hit a private school teacher. Sources said the woman who was crossing the road had a narrow escape from being hit by the bus reportedly due to the negligence of the bus driver identified as Manmohan Singh.
