Clash at fair:
Several residents of the state were booked for allegedly going on a rampage at the horse fair at Sriganganagar, 40 km from here, on Thursday. Organising committee chairman, Gurbachan Singh Kang of Chak 2W village, said the accused damaged property when they were not allowed to hold a dog fight at the fair. No arrest has been made so far.

MC neglected stadium: AISA: The All India Sports Association (AISA) has expressed concern over the neglect of Nehru Stadium in Abohar. The sports body said the Municipal Council had not spent a penny on its maintenance. A deputation of the association submitted a memorandum in this regard to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday.

Youth gets 10-yrs for rape:
The court of district and sessions judge Faridkot on Thursday awarded 10-year jail to a 22-year-old youth for raping his cousin. The 16-year-old victim had alleged that her cousin Shamsher Singh had molested her in Jaitu town in January.

Travel agents booked:
Two travel agents of Jalandhar have been booked for allegedly duping Kulwant Kaur of Talwandi Sallan village on the pretext of sending her brother to the US. She alleged Jarnail Singh and his wife Paramjit Kaur Gogi took Rs 11 lakh from her, but sent her brother to Mexico, from where he was deported.

Man booked for theft: A Phillaur resident has been booked for allegedly stealing ACSR (alluminium conductor steel reinforced) conductors worth Rs 6.25 lakh. These conductors belonged to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited. The accused has been identified as Nachhattar Singh of Mangowal village. Additional Superintending Engineer Ashwani Kumar had filed the complaint.

Booked:
A retired bank officer has been booked for forcing his daughter-in-law to make physical relation with him. The accused has been identified as Vinod Sood, a resident of Chandan Nagar. According to the complainant, her father-in-law used to harass her and forced her to have sex with him. The Police Division No. 4 has registered a case in this regard.

Immigration fraud: The Police Division No. 8 has booked Gurpreet Singh Chauhan and Richa for committing immigration fraud with a youth. According to the complainant, Balbir Singh, the accused persons got Rs 5,39,700 from him on the pretext of sending him to Canada. No arrest has been made so far.

Snatching: Three motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a purse from a woman at Shimlapuri area here on Wednesday. The victim, Swarnjeet Kaur from Samaral, said she was going towards the bus stand at around 2 pm when the trio came and snatched her purse containing Rs 30,000 and gold jewellery. The Shimlapuri police have registered a case in this regard.

Cong MLA bereaved:
Congress MLA Karan Kaur Brar's father Sukhinderpal Singh Mann (92) passed away at his house in Delhi on November 10. He had been ill for over a year. He is survived by wife, three daughters and his son.

Rajpura residents protest:
Congress workers and Rajpura residents led by local MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj held a massive dharna outside the office of the municipal council to protest poor civic amenities in the town. Kamboj said the council was collecting heavy funds from the residents, but failed to ensure basic facilities such as drinking water and sewerage in the town.

Sampla to visit his constituency today:
Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla will pay a visit to his constituency Hoshiarpur on November 14. BJP leader Tejaswi Bhardwaj said he would first visit Garhshankar, then arrive at Phagwara around 10 am. He will reach his constituency around 12 noon.

Snatched taxi recovered: The Sadar police have recovered the taxi that was snatched near Barna village on July 6. The taxi was recovered from Dhilwan on Thursday. Sub-Inspector Karamjit Singh said two Raia residents had hired the taxi and came to Phagwara to attend a marriage party but some unidentified robbers snatched the taxi after mercilessly beating upthe taxi driver and fled from the spot.

NUHM in 40 cities:
The state government is all set to launch the National Urban Health Mission Programme in 40 cities and 1,296 slum areas to provide health facilities to 77.83 lakh population, said Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Vini Mahajan. She said a total of 93 well-equipped urban primary health centres were being established.

The birthday of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh was celebrated at Badrukhan village, about 3 km from here. Badrukhan is said to be the birthplace of the Maharaja. The bhog of Akhand Path was held at the gurdwara, constructed in memory of the Maharaja.

3 booked for fraud:
A three-member gang allegedly defrauded a local resident of Rs 64 lakh on the pretext of securing admission in a medical course abroad. The accused, Arun Kumar, Pritam Kumar and Ajit Singh, have been booked on the complaint of Nirotambir Sharma of the local Khalsapur road.

Man booked for rape: A man from the Dalit community has been booked for allegedly raping his daughter at ward number 12 in Purani Abadi, Sriganganagar. Assistant Superintendent of Police Rashi Dogra will probe the case.

Lawsuit against US Army:
Two US-based rights groups have filed a lawsuit against the US Army for allegedly not enlisting a Sikh student in the Reserve Officer Training Corps programme, unless he shaved his beard and cut his hair. The lawsuit, filed by United Sikh and American Civil Liberties Union, in the US District Court for Columbia, asks the court to order Army officials to permit Iknoor Singh to enlist in Reserve Officer Training Corps while maintaining his religious practices.

2 IPS officers shifted:
The government has issued the transfer and posting orders of two IPS and one HPS officers. Kulwinder Singh will be the new SP, Kaithal, in place of Kuldeep Singh, who goes as SP, Palwal, relieving Patram Singh. The posting order of Patram Singh will be issued later. HPS officer Badan Singh goes as SP, Jind, against a vacant post.

20 hurt in bus mishap:
Twenty employees of a private company were injured when a bus they were traveling in collided with a truck on the Rewari-Delhi road here on Thursday. The bus was on its way to Rewari city to drop the employees. As the bus reached near Rao Abhay Singh Chowk, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit it.

Three students of Mukand Lal National College, Yamunanagar, bagged the top three positions in MSc chemistry(final) examination held by Kurukshetra University. Principal Shailesh Kapoor said Renu Rani, Mani Arora and Pooja Bhatia got the first, second and third position, scoring 84.1%, 83.3% and 83.2%.

Jairam said under Nadda, healthcare and other services would improve in the state.

Bus driver gets 2-yr jail term:
Judicial Magistrate, Una, Divya Jyoti Patial on Thursday sentenced a bus driver to two-year imprisonment for causing the death of two-wheeler rider Raghubir Singh of Dehra tehsil in Kangra district at the Una bus stand chowk on January 12, 2005, after a bus hit the victim’s scooter. District Attorney NC Ghai said bus driver Sat Pal of Kharota in Bilaspur district was given jail term under Section 304-A of the IPC and six months’ imprisonment under Section 279 of the IPC.

BSF DG DK Pathak was briefed by the IG, BSF, Kashmir, on the operational situation along the LoC and the BSF’s poll preparedness in the Valley. The DG was received in Srinagar yesterday by PS Sandhu, IG, BSF, Kashmir. “The DG visited forward areas and interacted with troops deployed in snow-bound areas,” a BSF spokesman said.

Bajrang Dal protest: Bajrang Dal activists protested at the SSP office in support of their demands in Dehradun on Thursday. The activists submitted a memorandum to SSP Ajay Rautela and demanded to quash “false case” against Bajrang Dal activists. Amit Tomar, district convener, Bajrang Dal, has threatened to intensify the agitation if the police does not quash cases against party activists. Sharad Arya, Amit Gautam, Deepak Gupta, Kuldeep and many others were present on the occasion.

Case of theft: Dalanwala police station has registered a case of theft here today. According to complainants, Himanshu Dariyal and Diggar Singh, has has been registered that some unidentified men had stolen two laptops and mobile handsets from their homes. They alleged that some unidentified men had stolen their valuables while they were in office. The complainants came to know about the theft when they returned home after office hours.

Cleanliness drive: Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) jointly launched a cleanliness drive in Dehradun on Thursday. Manoj Kumar Srivastava, Regional Officer Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, urged students to come forward to make city neat and clean. Dr Geeta Khanna, Secretary, IMA, Dehradun chapter, said unhygienic condition was the main reason behind fatal diseases. Maintaining proper hygiene helps to maintain good physical and mental status.

Ex-servicemen’s problems: Activists of the Gorkhali Sudhar Sabha (GSS) had a meeting with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat here on Thursday and apprised him about their issues. The activists were led by Col BS Chettri (Retd), president of GSS. He apprised The Chief Minister about the problems being faced by retired defence personnel in the state. He said that the retired defence personnel were facing problems in getting new ration cards and voter ID cards made. Sarika Pradhan, Sanjay Mall and Veerandra Thapa were part of the delegation.
