Liquor seized: The Suratgarh Sadar police on Wednesday seized 1,370 cartons of country-made foreign liquor by intercepting a truck on the Bhagwansar road. The consignment has a market value of Rs 50 lakh, the police claimed. Preliminary investigation reportedly indicated that liquor distilled in Punjab was loaded at Zirakpur and was to be delivered in Gujarat.

PPS win basketball matches: In the district zone-level basketball tournament,(U-14 and U-17), Police DAV School, Bathinda, defeated Delhi Public School. In U-17 category, Police DAV School defeated DPS 16-12. In the Under-14 category, Delhi Public School scored 3 points, while Police DAV School scored 12 points.

2 booked in dowry case: The women’s police station has booked a resident of Patiala for demanding dowry. In a complaint to the police, Shallu, a resident of Guru Nanak Pura area of the city, stated that she was married to Jaspreet Singh, who along with his father used to torture her for dowry. A case has been registered against Jaspreet Singh and his father Amrik Singh.

Govt official suspended for ‘sexual harassment’ : The Rural Development & Panchayats Department has suspended Narinder Singh Sandhu, Assistant Professor (SIRD), after two inquiries, following allegations of sexual harassment by a woman resourceperson and appointment of his family members as resourcepersons without any permission by a competent authority. According to an official spokesman, during the suspension, his headquarters will be Community Development & Training Centre, Batala.

10 held for flesh trade: The Mukerian police have busted a flesh trade racket being run from a hotel here. They arrested 10 people, including four women, from the Wonder Land Hotel in Mukerian and registered a case against them. A police party on a tip-off conducted a raid at the hotel on Tuesday night. The hotel manager as well as the owner were also nabbed.

Body found hanging from tree: The body of a youth, Sarabjit Singh (30) of Raipur village, was found hanging from a tree in a deserted area near Nasrala Choe Bridge. Deputy Superintendent of Police Harwinder Singh Dalli said, “As per preliminary investigation, Sarabjit was healthy and there seems no immediate reason for him to commit suicide and, that too, from a fallen tree.”

Man booked for wife’s suicide: Sandeep Kaur (21), who was perturbed over the alleged harassment by her in-laws, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her in-laws’ house in Bania village, 30 km from here, on Tuesday. The police booked Kaptan Singh, husband of the deceased, besides his father Gian Singh and mother Harwinder Kaur.

rs 18,000 snatched: Two unidentified motorcyclists snatched Rs 18,000 from a woman, Kulwant Kaur, in Bhikhiwind, 35 km from here, on Tuesday. A case under Sections 382 and 34 of the IPC has been registered in this regard.
