Ex-councillor Babla convicted

The court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Shifa today convicted former councillor and former chairman of the Market Committee Devinder Singh Babla of cheating in a case of allotment of platforms in the Grain Market, Sector 26, to 10 “ineligible” persons. He was released on probation for one year after the conviction by the court here today.

A special court for crime against women here has awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a woman for throwing acid on her mother-in-law and sister-in-law.
SI gets two-year jail
Chandigarh, July 21
The Special CBI Court of Vimal Kumar today sentenced a UT sub-inspector to two-year imprisonment and two middlemen to one-year imprisonment in a graft case. The court had convicted SI Hansraj Singh under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Surprise check at education department

In another twist to the Jyoti murder case, a defence witness corroborated Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary’s statement that the legislator’s driver Satpal would handle his phone calls and that on the night of murder, Satpal had told him that he was busy. Four witnesses deposed before the court today.
