Two held with opium
: The police have arrested Manjit Singh and his friend Sandeep Kumar of Khemakhera village with 1-kg opium here on Monday.

5 escape from juvenile home:
Five inmates escaped from a juvenile home here on Sunday night. In his complaint to the police, the juvenile home superintendent said the five inmates climbed up a wall of the home with the help of water supply pipes and fled. The police said raids were conducted at their possible hideouts.

Welfare manch honours writer:
Writer Jaswant Singh Kawal was awarded “Kamal di Loa” award by the Sai Dutta Welfare Manch, Juharan, here today. Kawal is known for his novels, poetry and short stories.

Purse snatched: Two bike-borne youths snatched a purse containing Rs 4,000 in cash and a mobile phone from a woman at Ghumar Mandi today. Sunita Jain (65), a resident of Haibowal, she was entering a showroom when two youths snatched her purse. Sunita said she raised the alarm, but the snatchers fled. A case has been registered in this connection

Doc held for castration
:
The police have arrested a doctor for allegedly castrating an 18-year youth at the behest of transgender community at Moga. A case has been registered against Dr Ram Singh Dhaliwal, owner of a private hospital, Manju Mahant, a leader of the transgender community, and Jagga Singh (both residents of Bassi Pathana). The victim, Inder Bahadur, is a resident of Rajpura and the incident occurred on Friday.

Youth booked: The police have booked a youth on alleged charges of uploading derogatory remarks against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on the social media. The youth, Gurjit Singh of Moga, allegedly posted objectionable material and photos of the dera head on Facebook (FB), which triggered a strong reaction among the followers of the sect.

Sangrur
Rs 4.95 lakh looted
: Unidentified persons looted Rs 4.95 lakh from a father-son duo by putting chilli powder in their eyes on the Lehra-Jakhal road. Lehragaga SHO Pushpinder Singh said Mohinder Singh and his son Dharamvir Singh were going to their native Gurne Kalan village on a motorcycle after withdrawing the amount from a bank when the incident took place.

: The SIT arrested an accused in an alleged extortion racket was arrested on pretext of withdrawing rape charge. The police arrested advocate Harish Arya and produced him in the court, from where he was sent to two days' police remand.

Panipat
Two labourers die
: Two migrant labourers were killed and another injured during construction of a railway under bridge at the Panipat-Gohana railway line on Monday evening. A GRP official said the mishap occurred as some earthen pieces fell on labourers. They have been identified as Nanni & Chhotu.

Rohtak
UN award for Haryana lad:
Haryana’s Vikramaditya Sangwan (in pic) has been awarded the United Nations Public Service Award for a project aimed at improving environmental quality and livelihood of the poor. Vikramaditya recently received the award for project Aman on which he worked while he studying at Humboldt University in Berlin in Germany.

BMW cars’ looter arrested: Nearly a month after three BMW cars worth Rs 1.5 crore being transported by a truck went missing, police claim to have solved the mystery with the arrest of a person today. The accused, Gurmeet Singh, hails from Punjab, but had been residing in Sunderpur village of the district. Police said the accused, along with three others, had looted the truck after killing the driver. On the way, the accused killed the driver and brought the truck to Rohtak. Of the six BMW cars, the accused took three and left the other three on the truck.

Guv mourns freedom fighter’s demise: Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi has expressed deep grief over the sad demise of the veteran freedom fighter and social activist Dungar Singh Bisht, resident of Nainital district.
