Gurjar announces NH from Bhiwani
Mahendragarh, July 19 He said the 210-km-long highway would be extended to Punjab to facilitate passengers. The highway would be completed in three years at an estimated cost of Rs 2,600 crore, he said. While addressing a public meeting in Mahendragarh town here today, he maintained that roads in south Haryana were in dilapidated condition in due to bias approach of the state government but the situation would now not remain same for long as the union government had chalked out a special plan to provide better road facilities across the state. “The Nangal Chaudhary-Kharak road, which connects Kalanaur (Rohtak) via Narnaul, Mahendragarh and Charkhi Dadri, will now be a National Highway and it will be extended up to Punjab via Hansi, Barwala and Tohana. The Centre has given approval to the project,” said Gurjar, adding that he would talk to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for the implementation of the project. “Technically, it is not possible for the Centre to execute the road projects in the state without the consent of the state government. I call on Hooda for his cooperation in this regard. After getting consent from the state, a tender for constructing the highway will be issued within six months,” said the minister. Lambasting the previous UPA government for its lethargic approach towards the implementation of development works, Gurjar said the Congress government had made many announcements to improve road transportation, but did not pay heed to their execution. Hence, work on several NHAI projects was moving at snail’s pace, he said. Gurjar maintained that the Hooda government had issued tender for the Nangal Choudhary-Karak road to develop it into a four-lane road on January 23, 2012, but the tender was terminated on February 3 this year. Following this, the government had to bear the loss of Rs 25 crore. He claimed the new national highway would turn out to be a lifeline for the people of south Haryana. State BJP chief Ram Bilas Sharma and MP from Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Dharambir Singh were among those present on the occasion. Later, Gurjar addressed a party workers’ meeting in Nangal Chaudhary town. |
CAG objects to state’s promotion largesse
Chandigarh, July 19 In its latest report, the CAG stated that the Haryana Government had between five and 12 posts in the chief secretary’s grade from March, 2007, to June, 2013, compared to the sanctioned strength
of two or three. “Promotions to the chief secretary’s grade were made without constituting the screening committee in contravention of Government of India instructions, resulting in irregular expenditure of Rs 5.37 crore,” the report pointed out. The matter was discussed between CAG officials and state government officials in an ‘exit conference’ in January, 2014, wherein the chief secretary stated that financial implications in promoting the officers to the level of chief secretary were not much as they had reached the ceiling of their pay scales. “The expenditure of Rs 5.37 crore may not be treated as irregular since a screening committee headed by the chief secretary was constituted and an officer of the level of additional secretary with the Government of India was present in the meeting,” the state government contended. The state government also contended that it would continue to operate posts of the level of chief secretary on account of requirement of work, adding that it was being done by almost all states. The CAG report asserted that the contention of the chief secretary was not acceptable as the appointment of posts above the prescribed strength was irregular and against instructions of the Government of India. “The Public Accounts Committee of the state Assembly asked the state government to obtain approval of the Government of India, which was not done,” the report said, claiming that the expenditure on salaries and allowances of these officers should be treated
as irregular. Expenses ‘irregular’

Hisar Cong gears up for workers’ meet
Hisar, July 19 Giving this information, district Congress committee spokesperson Dharambir Goyat today said two meetings, presided over by the Chief Minister, had rejuvenated the party workers who were feeling let down after the Lok Saba elections. The Congress had forfeited its deposit in Hisar Lok Sabha seat, which witnessed a direct contest between the INLD and HJC. Goyat, however, maintained that both the meetings, held in Hisar and Adampur Assembly segments, were successful and party workers had shown new zeal after the Chief Minister assured them of involvement in government functions if the party returned to power. Krishan Murti Hooda, party observer for Hisar, would also address a meeting on July 20 in Narnaund to assign works regarding the CM’s visit to the party workers. Meanwhile, Laxma Reddy, the central party observer, meet the workers and ticket aspirants from various Assembly segments in the district at the Congress Bhawan today. |
Former district chief quits Cong
Kurukshetra, July 19 He said “After poor performance in Lok Sabha elections, the state leadership dissolved the district units and committees that led the morale of workers going down. Instead of dissolving the units and committees, the party should have taken action against senior party leaders who have been making statements against the party and its senior leaders openly.” On being asked about the timing of the decision, he said “It was a decision that I wanted to take long back ago but the senior leaders kept assuring me of fulfilling our demands but it never happened.” About sending an official letter of his decision, he said “I will not send any official letter, let the media tell them.” Sharma had joined Congress after quitting Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in 2009 and was seeking party ticket from Thanesar Assembly constituency for the forthcoming elections. However, he denied disclosing which party
he will join now. Sources said he may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said the further course of action would be decided within a couple
of days and a public meeting would be organised on July 26 where he would disclose the future strategy. |
Cong passed gurdwara Bill for poll gains, says Inderjit
Sonepat, July 19 He was interacting with mediapersons after addressing a meeting of BJP workers from the Sonepat Assembly constituency. He said the issue was on the concurrent list and the state government should have consulted the Centre before passing the Bill. In reply to a question about Rajya Sabha member Virender Singh joining the BJP, he said, “I do not know about it.” He stated that decisions on the BJP-HJC alliance and naming the chief ministerial candidate would be taken by the parliamentary board and the central committee soon. Addressing party workers, he said the mass base of the Congress had been eroded and the main contest in the Assembly elections would be against the INLD. He criticised the INLD for neglecting the BJP during its tenure from 2000 to 2005 even though it was a part of the NDA then. Claiming that BJP candidates had taken the lead in 53 of the 72 Assembly segments in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies it contested in the General Election, he said the upcoming Assembly elections would provide an opportunity to the BJP to have a standing. “The party and the government cannot be run with the support of a single ‘biradari’ alone,” he said. He added that the BJP was a cadre-based party committed to equal development and uplift of all. MPs Jugal Kishor and Ramesh Kaushik, MLA Kavita Jain, state BJP vice-president Rajiv Jain, state unit spokesman Lalit Batra and district president Om Prakash Atre also spoke. |
