161 units raided for illegal LPG filling
New Delhi, June 26 The Commissioner said that the business of filling small cylinders is very dangerous and may lead to explosions and fire accidents. "Such premises also abet in siphoning off of LPG from the domestic gas cylinders and cheating of consumers by supplying underweight cylinders. The department has seized 277 cylinders so far and FIRs under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, have also been lodged against the offenders. Raids are continuing. On conviction, the accused may face imprisonment up to seven years," he said. Yadav said that LPG (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000, issued under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, bans unauthorized possession, supply and consumption of LPG, as well as unauthorized storage and transport of gas cylinders. There is also a ban on the sale or distribution of cylinders below or in excess of the standard weight. Yadav said that the main areas where raids were conducted are Sant Nagar, Wazirpur, Burari, Raza Pur, Shahbad Daulat Pur, New Seemapuri, East Vinod Nagar, Dakshinpuri, Mehrauli, Kapashera, Kalander Colony, Gokulpuri, Seemapuri, Dilshad Garden, Kartar Nagar, Usman Pur, Gamri Chowk, Mandoli, Harsh Vihar, Prem Nagar and Sadar Bazaar. Central Sect-Mandi House line opens to public
New Delhi, June 26 Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the train from the Mandi House Metro station at 9.30 am. The section is the first line to become operational under Phase III of the Delhi Metro, which is expected to benefit 70,000 additional commuters. The 3-km-long underground corridor consists of two stations-Janpath and Mandi House-where interchange facility with the currently operational Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 21-NOIDA City Centre) is provided. The section is part of Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate line (9.37 km) of Phase III which is an extension of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor (22 km) of Phase II. "It has been completed in a short time span of only two years. The section was originally scheduled to be opened in October," said a DMRC spokesperson. The Mandi House station will be the first interchange station of Delhi Metro's Phase III. The existing Mandi House station of Phase II has been expanded to cater to additional passengers. The opening of this section has been advanced as this stretch will help in decongesting the busy Rajiv Chowk Metro station as the commuters of the Badarpur-Central Secretariat Line bound for Noida, Vaishali as well as Dwarka will be able to change trains at the Mandi House station without changing trains twice at Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk. "The new stations--Janpath and Mandi House--are equipped with token vending machines and add value-cum-card readers, besides other passenger related facilities," said the official. |
Mystery shrouds woman's death
New Delhi, June 26 The victim's parents have alleged that she had been harassed for dowry since her marriage. Her in-laws have claimed that she hanged herself. The victim, Pooja, was married to Vipin Kumar, 28, in April 2012. She had been living with her husband, their one-year-old son and in-laws in their house in Karawal Nagar. At about 11 pm on Wednesday, Pooja's sister Madhu allegedly received a call from the victim's in-laws that she had committed suicide. Madhu and her husband rushed to Karawal Nagar from their home in Bhajanpura and found Pooja's body lying on the floor in the house. They were allegedly told by the woman's in-laws that they had found Pooja hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. However, Pooja's family has suspected she was strangled. Madhu immediately informed the police and the body was taken to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where its postmortem was conducted. Pooja's family members then filed a case of murder and accused her in-laws of harassing her for dowry. Madhu has told the police that she had allegedly received a call from Pooja earlier on Wednesday informing her that she was being mentally and physically tortured for dowry. The victim had allegedly told Madhu that she wanted to return to her maternal home. Pooja and her son Shubh were also allegedly dropped by her father-in-law at Madhu's home on Sunday, it has been alleged. She returned to her in-laws home the same evening after learning that Madhu was to go to one of her relatives' house in Uttar Pradesh. Since Pooja and Vipin were married for fewer than seven years, the incident will be probed by a sub-divisional magistrate. |
