City doctor bags 14th rank

Chandigarh, June 12
The tricity topper, Dr Vipin Itankar Vithoba, shares his success with his wife, Dr Shalini Ashri, in Chandigarh on Thursday. City doctors have bagged the two top positions in the tricity in the Civil Services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, the results of which were declared today. Four students from the tricity have found a place among the top 100 successful candidates.

Withdraw occupation certificate of adjoining building: MC to Estate Office
Chandigarh, June 12
As the adjoining building (SCOs 117-118) is under an immediate serious threat after (SCOs 114-116), from where the NIELIT was operating, collapsed on June 8, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has now written to the UT Estate Office to withdraw the occupation certificate of the adjoining building for safety reasons.

After brawl with husband, woman drowns baby girl

The village pond in which the baby girl was thrown. In a gruesome murder, a five-month-old baby girl was thrown into a village pond by her mother after she had a brawl with her husband in the Kherawala village area in Panchkula this evening. Villagers tried to save the child, Nika, but did not succeed.

Sector-17 building collapse
MC to propose job for victims’ kin

Chandigarh, June 12
Barricades have been installed near the NIELIT building that collapsed after fire broke out in its basement on June 8. The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) will propose compensatory job and monetary compensation for the dependents of airman Ravinder Kumar (46) and MC fireman Amandeep (30), who died in the Sector 17 fire incident on June 8.

kidnapping Case against SHO
Punjab Police begin probe

The Punjab Police have initiated investigations soon after the Haryana police booked station house office (SHO), Dera Bassi, and a sub-inspector (SI) in a case of kidnapping for ransom and extortion. The Punjab Police have taken initiative even though the Haryana police have not made any official communication in this regard to them as yet, sources in the police said.

Chandigarh-based coloniser penalised for deficiency of service

A Chandigarh-based coloniser was directed to pay a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh and to refund Rs 8. 21 lakh with 9 per cent per annum rate of interest since February 2013. The decision was pronounced ex-parte, as the colonizer failed to appear, by the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Bathinda.

Alok Kumar of India defeated Thawat Sujaritthurakarn of Thailand 5-3 to book his berth in the final of the ONGC Asian Billiards Championship, being held at UT Guest house. Alok will face Sourav Kothari in the final of the competition. In the first semifinals, Alok went off to a great start against Thawat by laying claim to the first three games 100-55, 100-47, 101-25.
