At Khanna, factory fire devours raw material worth crores
Khanna, June 11
A massive fire broke out at Abinash Industries, a feed plant at Focal Point here. The fire was so massive that all raw material, used in the manufacturing of cattle feed, worth crores was damaged in a few minutes. Around six fire tenders from the neighbouring districts were pressed into service to put out the fire.

Wanted criminal nabbed after evening shootout
Ludhiana, June 11
The police nabbed an infamous criminal after a shootout on Ferozepur Road at around 6 pm today. Panic gripped residents in the surrounding areas as shootout between criminal Davinder Singh and the police was going on.

Residents sweat as power plays truant

As the mercury keeps rising in the region, erratic power supply and unscheduled power cuts have added to the misery of the residents.
While senior officials of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) claimed yesterday that adequate power was available to fully meet a spurt in the demand during the paddy-sowing season, which officially commenced on June 10, the ground reality is entirely different. |

MC yet to act against encroachers

As per civic body’s estimate, there are 100 encroachments in the city. Religious bodies have encroached upon public land. Barring institutions, all other encroachments need to be removed as per instructions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

DC wants smokers to keep off offices

Deputy Commissioner Rajat Aggarwal met representatives of various departments and asked them to entrust officials with challaning of violators under the tobacco Act.
For the past 15 days, not even a single challan has been issued by the chief sanitary inspectors (who have been given the duty of challaning defaulters) in all four zones.

Dengue case reported
One more dengue case has reported. The patient is a eight-year-old boy. The patient belongs to the Rahon Road and is admitted to Preet Hospital on Wednesday. Till now, the number of dengue patients have reached seven, out of which three belong to Ludhiana and four to other districts.
Two held with stolen goods, jewellery

Missing man’s body found from canal
Doraha, June 11
The body of a missing man of Chankoian Khurd village was recovered by the Doraha police yesterday from a canal near Ranike village.
The deceased, Pal Khan (38), had gone missing since June 7. He parked his motorcycle at a parking lot in Doraha and went to deposit some bill and collect money from Sultan Mohammad on that day.
Youth held with drugs
Machhiwara, June 11
The police claimed to have arrested a youth and recovered about 1,500 intoxicant tablets from him.
A police party, led by ASI Barjinder Singh, had set up a naka on the Sherpur-Behlolpur road. It signalled him who was on foot to stop. He tried to escape but was overpowered.
Cricket: Ludhiana record win
Ludhiana, June 11
The two-day match between Ludhiana and Mohali remained unresolved. However, on the basis of first innings lead of 177 runs, the hosts were declared winners and secured three points in the match of the Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Championship (U-25) being played at Punjab Agricultural University.
