Now, pay house tax online
Dehradun, June 2 The main reason for starting the online service is said to be to ease the inconvenience faced by locals standing in long queues for hours and waiting for their turn for house tax payment. The online system has been started on a one-week trial basis, with 10,000 houses selected on random basis from the three circles of the city. As many as 10,000 houses have initially been shortlisted to test the system. Feedback would be taken from the users. Shortfalls would thus be rectified and the facility would then be thrown open to all the 1,20,000 households in the city, said Chamoli. To file the house tax, one can visit the MCD website, nagarnigamdehradun.co.in and pay tax online
using a button on the main page. |

Nomination process for Panchayat polls begins
Dehradun, June 2 For the 12 posts of Zila Panchayat members, 12 nominations were received. Two nominations were received for the post of member Zila Panchayat from Raipur block, three nominations for the post of member Zila Panchayat from Chakrata, one from Kalsi block, four from Sahaspur block, no nomination received from Vikas Nagar, and two from Doiwala block. The nominations that started today will continue till June 5. The scrutiny of forms (for all the three phases) would take place on June 6, 7 and 9. While the withdrawal of nominations (for all the three phases) would take place on June 10. A total of 46,94,689 voters in the state will directly elect members of gram panchayats, pradhans of gram panchayats, members of Ksehtra panchayat and members of Zila
Panchayats. In the first phase, the elections would be held for 28 development blocks, in the second phase for 31 development blocks, and in the third phase for 30 development blocks. PCC appoints supervisors
DEHRADUN: Suryakant Dhasmana, vice-president of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), on Monday said state president of the PCC Yashpal Arya has appointed supervisors for the coming Panchayat elections in the state. He said the supervisors, after holding meetings with MLAs, district presidents and other office-bearers of the party, would submit a detailed report to Arya before June 7. Dr MS Pal has been appointed the supervisor of Udham Singh Nagar, Mukesh Mehandirata of Nainital and Prayag Bhatt of Almora district. Karan Mahara has been appointed the supervisor of Bageshwar, Sher Singh of Pithoragarh and KS Negi of Champawat district. Dr KS Rana, P Bahuguna, BS Negi, Sarojni Kaintura and Praveen Bhandari have been appointed the supervisors of Chamoli, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Dehradun and Rudraprayag districts, respectively. |

Normalcy in disaster-hit areas top priority: CM
Pithoragarh, June 2 Addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister said restoring normalcy in the disaster-affected areas and the border regions of the state was his top priority. The CM said he was committed to the development of the backward regions.
“We have made all possible efforts to redevelop basic facilities in the disaster-affected regions. Our efforts are still underway and the remaining works will be completed before the arrival of the monsoon," he said. After the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister met Congress workers and directed them to publicise the achievements of the state government. He said due to lack of publicity, the Congress suffered massive defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Address public complaints on priority: Haridwar DM
Haridwar, June 2 Taking cognisance of many public complaints registered in previous platforms not being resolved yet, Pendiyan said such complaints should be resolved immediately. As many as 71 applications were received by the District Magistrate today. Of these, 12 were addressed on the spot. Most of these applications were linked to Municipal Corporation, social welfare, Irrigation Department, food supplies, chakbandi, forest, education, village panchayat and statehood fighters. The DM has also sought a progress report on the measures taken regarding these complaints from the officials concerned in a week's time. On June 5, the Garhwal Commissioner will convene a meeting of government departments concerned and nodal agencies related with ‘Ardh Kumbh’. The District Magistrate has sought proposals from the departments related with Ardh Kumbh works and projects, which will be submitted to Chief Development Officer Vishnu Singh Dhanik by June 4. aridwar, June 2 He said the successful completion of the Ardh Kumbh fair in 2016 was his top priority. Hari Das said meetings to discuss preparations for the fair well in time would be called soon. He said they would make all possible efforts to ensure that better infrastructure
and facilities were provided to the pilgrims. “I will try to bring in transparency in the working of the authority. Although Ardh Kumbh will be held in 2016, we need to plan things in time to avoid any delay that time," he said. He also made it clear that the HDA would take stern action against illegal constructions and encroachment. He said they would also bring in changes in the working of the HDA as with increasing population and rapid urbanisation, cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh and Roorkee were required to be developed in a planned manner. ITBP jawans clear snow-covered areas on Mansarovar route
Pithoragarh, June 2 "We have started clearing the area, with red
flags being used to identify the route, which is covered with 4 feet snow this year compared to one
feet last year," said Kedar Singh Rawat, an ITBP commandant involved in flagging work at Lipulekh pass. According to the ITBP commandant, besides flagging the route like in previous years, the force has deputed a batch of 20 women jawans in camps beyond Gunji. These women jawans, being deputed for the first time by the force on this yatra route, will guide women pilgrims of the yatra batches to cross the snow-clad and slippery routes beyond Gunji,? said the ITBP commandant. According to ITBP officers, a control room for this yatra will be established at headquarters of 7th battalion of ITBP, at Didihat, for the facility of Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims and their family members to get information on the yatra, the condition of yatra batches and the route.? ITBP team scales Chaudhara peak
Pithoragarh, June 2 “The team’s success is unique as they stayed in glaciers in the last two camps and had to scale the peak, which is situated at 85 degree elevation and is covered with ice wall around it,” said Ranvir Singh, commandant of the battalion. Experienced mountaineer Logjam Sherpa, who had earlier scaled Mount Everest, was also part of the team. The team was launched on May 10 by IS Negi, Inspector General (IG) of the ITBP, from the ITBP headquarter at Jajerdeval in Pithoragarh district. After traveling up to Lilam, Bhujali and Ralam Glaciers in Johar valley, the team reached Sipu Gwar and 10 expedition members, including one inspector and nine constables reached the peak, added Ranvir Singh. |
Waste Warrior volunteers clean Gandhi Park
Dehradun, June 2 A large quantity of garbage was collected from the children’s playground. Interns and volunteers also emptied the overflowing dustbins and removed litter from the lawns and piles of leaves scattered in the park. Later, the NGO submitted a proposal to Mayor Vinod Chamoli to conduct a free composting training workshop for the Nagar Nigam staff working in the park. It also offered to cover the costs of building the composting enclosures as the Nagar Nigam was not willing to release the funds. The NGO set up an information stall outside the park to make the public aware of the correct disposal of waste, encourage use of dustbins and to recruit volunteers for the NGO’s upcoming clean-up campaigns. |

Dehradun, June 2 Chitra Gupta, chairperson of the union, said the wages of the tea estate workers was not sufficient. “The wages should be increased by Rs 10,000 per month and efforts are being made to increase the wages of the workers,” she added. “The issues pertaining to the wages was discussed with the previous Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. The current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the final decision. However, the workers should be ready for any kind of agitation for seeking their rights,” said Ashok Sharma, union leader. A 15 members working committee of the sabha was also chosen. Students nab purse snatcher
Dehradun, June 2 A few college union leaders spotted Arvind and nabbed him before he could flee and informed the police. Following checks, the police found in his possession two more purses and a mobile. He had allegedly stolen these from the main gate of the college in the morning. He told the police that he is a resident of Harrawala, completed his BA from DAV PG College in 2012 and is unemployed
these days. Police have registered a case against him on the complaint of the college management.

Mussoorie author’s maiden book released
Mussoorie, June 2 Ataur Rab, a designated senior counsel practicing at the Uttarakhand High Court, was born and brought up in Mussoorie. He spent all his life here in “the most secular” city, as he fondly calls it. He has a Master’s degree in Hindi literature. The book is a collection of
poems inspired by this secular spirit. The author, elated at bringing out his work, said the book is written in Hindi and comprises poems on several themes ranging from the philosophy of life to religious unity, peace and pain of the common person. ‘Aleeq’ literary society, of which Mr Rab has been a founder member, has assisted the author in the release of collection of some of his best works. |

Dehradun, June 2 Abhigyan Dandriyal, patron of the Garh Gaurav Kanhiya Dandriyal Samriti Manch, said, 'Anjwal', a series of 31 poems written by Kanhiya Lal, was published in 1978. He said Dandriyal tried to highlight different social issues like backwardness, poverty, superstition etc. through his series of poems written in Garhwali language. Introduce chopper service in Darma, Vyas valleys: CS
Dehradun, June 2 He directed them to appoint doctors for one month each on a rotation basis and start the construction of the bridges that were swept away in the natural disaster last year. The Chief Secretary also inspected the Vyas, Darma and Munsiyari valleys from May 27 to 29. He covered a distance of 33 km on foot and found that most of the villages were yet to be connected to roads. He instructed officials to draft development programmes for these areas. The Chief Secretary also gave instructions to introduce helicopter services from Dharchula to Gunji, Dharchula to Martoli for the Darma valley, Dharchula to Martoli for the Chaudas valley and Dharchula to Chaudas valley. “The services will be introduced soon as it takes three days to reach these villages
by road,” he said. The Chief Secretary said doctors would be air lifted with pharmacists and medicines. The doctors would be appointed at Chiyalok in the Vyas valley, Baling in the Darma valley and Martoli in the Munsyari valley. |

Dehradun, June 2 According to the terms and conditions of the agreement, the government was to provide the facilities, including the machine and the premises, while the private partner was to be responsible for the operational part of the centre, including providing manpower and services. In the initial years, the centre ran smoothly. However, soon a disagreement began to arise between the government and the private partner on the issue of the payment for the film, which did not find mention in the agreement. Repeated breakdown of the machine and servicing also proved problematic, affecting the services at the centre. “We will not be renewing the contract with Bhatia Diagnostics. As of now, we are contemplating running the centre all by ourselves. We have two radiologists working at the Doon Hospital. We will have to make arrangements for the third one to run the centre,” said Dr GS Joshi, Director General, Medical, Health and Family Welfare. |

STF nabs two employees from Tamil Nadu

Dehradun, June 2 According to the STF, they had arrested then branch manager, Manoj Kumar, and assistant branch manager, Jack Bakowar, from different places in Tamil Nadu in the last two days for their alleged involvement in the scam. The STF team, led by Inspector DC Dhaundiyal, said they wanted a transit remand of both the accused for bringing them to Dehradun for further investigation in the case. Four of family killed in road mishap
Dehradun, June 2 According to information, the victims were travelling to Uttarkashi from Badkot. The accident took place when the car driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a
sharp turn and it fell ito a ditch. Passersby reported the matter to the administration, following which the rescue and relief operation was initiated. The injured are admitted to a local hospital. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Harish Rawat has expressed grief over the loss of lives.
He has promised all possible help to the family. He also prayed for the peace of the departed souls. |
